Meet Kayla Broberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Broberg.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always drawn off and on since I was a kid, but it has not necessarily been an easy thing for me to do: it has always taken effort to express myself artistically. With the exception of a few art classes, I am pretty much self-taught which makes it harder in some ways, but also feels like the art I create isn’t forced or a product of a specific technique, but a product of my own experimentation.

Please tell us about your art.
I really make art for myself. It’s almost a journaling exercise. I create art as a way of working through an idea or thought in my head I want to express. It is a way of understanding myself and, in turn, other people. I use mostly ink and watercolor because there is an interesting juxtaposition of those mediums. Ink is very precise, tedious, predictable, slow; watercolor can be somewhat unpredictable, it flows, it moves. The contradiction is something I find speaks to me and my own contradictions. I hope people are able to make their own personal connection to my art. Hopefully they see something very different in than I see. It’s always interesting to see how others interpret my art, it can be eye opening.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Networking is always challenging, but I think if you put yourself in situations where you’re around art and artists, you will end up opening opportunities for yourself to make connections. Go to museums, art galleries, openings, seminars, anything creative and inspiring. Be part of your local art community.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I post my work on Instagram, behance, indiewalls. If you like my art, follow and comment!
