Today we’d like to introduce you to Katja, Monica and Carlos Müller.
Mónica and Carlos Müller have always shared the love for one thing – Adventures.
Ever since they were married in their early twenties they have been embarking on journeys that have taken them travelling and seeking opportunity around the world. They have lived in different countries and have been part of multiple communities which has given them a gentle perspective.
A few years ago, they gave their passports a rest and settled down in the South Bay.
It didn’t take long before the need of adventure set in and an idea blossomed. – a domestic adventure. A place to share their love of nature and culture with their new community. A place where they could raise awareness about protection and conservation of our forests and jungles. A place where people could go not only to find unique pieces for their homes but where they could be creative, learn about how their furniture is made and build a habitat for themselves.
That place is now known as Artistic Habitat.
Katja, the second of four children and only daughter, was excited to join their project.
Throughout her life, Katja has thrived in creative environments. After graduating from Chapman University’s Film School, she worked in the film industry in various productions as a team member of the set design department. Nowadays, Katja’s styling, creative direction and design knowledge introduced distinctive concepts to the Artistic Habitat studio.
Evidently, Artistic Habitat has given Katja room to grow creatively. She has developed a line of home goods which consists of rugs, wall art and décor that will be available at Artistic Habitat late 2016. ‘Katja Müller h o m e’ was created out of her love for natural materials, patterns, textures and the concept of modernizing the traditional. She takes inspiration from history and nature itself. She has been featured in several Californian publications and keeps an influential presence across social media platforms.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every young business faces struggles, but it’s part of the growth and the learning process. We have had to learn a lot of new skills and adjust the way we work with each other. The most important thing for us has been to have good communication and work as a team.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Artistic Habitat – what should we know?
Our Woods: Reclaimed, Repurposed, Reforested
The products that we choose to put in our home should be more than just stylish, functional and beautiful. They deserve a story. At Artistic Habitat, we believe in the beauty of the overall process of making furniture. Starting with the source, our woods are certified to be responsibly obtained. Whether it is flooring made from responsibly managed plantations, furniture from repurposed and reclaimed woods or décor made from recovered exotic trees, every piece we offer is sure to impress. We believe in the simplicity of great design and respect the characteristics of nature’s iconic materials.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We are very thankful to the south bay community for the way they have welcomed us. It has been a wonderful experience collaborating with local businesses, architects, designers and homeowners.
