Meet Kate Hancock of OC Facial Care Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Hancock.

Kate, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up on a small island with the dream of coming to the US and starting a business, essentially the American Dream. After a few years of being here and working 3+ jobs, I became a national sales manager for a medical skin care company. This gave me the knowledge on how to manage a lot of people after growing their sales by millions I decided I could do the same on my own.

6 years ago I started OC Facial Care Center a spa focusing on treating a variety of skin conditions such as acne, melasma, and brown spots. I personally have suffered from Eczema so I know how tough it is living with a skin condition. Since years ago we have helped thousands of people and expanded to 2 locations where we also have a nice retail store in the front of the spa. My dream came true and was honored last year to be a part of the Inc 5000 list for fastest growing private companies in America.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With growth comes large capital expenditure and I was always told to use my own cash. Last year I was at an event listening to Daymond John when he mentioned that financial intelligence is the most difficult part of a business and taking loans is crucial. This completely changed how I would grow and the rate at which I can get it done. I immediately went home and tried to get loans but if you have done this you then know it is a daunting task.

Luckily I was able to meet the right people who helped me gain the right banking relationships that met my companies needs. Now we are looking to expand nationwide.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about OC Facial Care Center – what should we know?
We are a day spa that uses a special technique I created getting our clients the results they desire for their skin.

Although we treat a variety of skin conditions we have seen amazing results in acne, aging, brown spots, and all different skin types. I have trained with Dr. Obagi and use his way of treating people who like myself have darker skin. We carry hard to find high-quality medical grade products and lots of amazing gifts like candles and perfume.

One aspect that sets us apart is we pride ourselves on having the service you expect of a luxury resort spa with the treatment of a med spa. We use machines in the treatments and always try to be on the cutting edge with facials ranging from $110-$1500. I was very proud of us to receive the Inc 5000 award last year but I am most proud every time we have a client who has tried everything with no results and leaves our spa finally happy.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had some amazing entrepreneur friends/mentors being in the groups YEC and EO. Through ups and downs they have been there for me and I have learned more than any class or book I could read. Also, my fiance, Dan, who runs all the marketing, PR and operations has been a crucial part of the business for a few years Plus we work great together.
