Meet K808 and Khaledzou of MUNNYCAT in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to K808 and Khaledzou.

K808 and Khaledzou, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Khaledzou: We’d both been making music on our own for a while, but when we started MUNNYCAT we wanted to return to what initially made us fall in love with music in the first place – golden-age hip hop and sugar-sweet 90’s pop.

In the beginning, we lived in Youngstown, Ohio and came to LA for a few music meetings. Our first one was at Joan’s in Studio City, just a few blocks away from where we live now. We fell head-over-heels in love with the area and had this realization that there are a lot of creative people making it work here – why couldn’t we?

So we loaded our cat, dog, two computers, and our Fender Rhodes into a tiny U-Haul and took Route 66 all the way across America to give it a try.

K808: Once we got here, we were totally inspired. We were making tons of new music and finding so many cool locations where we could take photos and shoot music videos.

We’ve been here a couple of years now, but we still feel like total tourists. We release a new song every month and make our own music videos, so we love exploring new parts of LA to inspire our art.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Khaledzou: We love a good challenge! When we moved to LA, we didn’t know what to expect. Here was this bright, shiny city filled with creative people, and it was calling our names. We grew up in an old midwestern steel town. It wasn’t a huge city, and there weren’t a ton of avenues to pursue music there.

We were surviving, but we weren’t growing or changing. It was scary to leave what was comfortable behind and risk it all for the chance to create the life that we wanted for ourselves. Yes – there have been tons of obstacles and challenges along the way, but we always choose to look at them as opportunities.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with MUNNYCAT – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
K808: We’re MUNNYCAT! I’m K808, and he’s Khaledzou. We’re two LA-based noise pop electronic music producers/songwriters. We’re influenced by a lot of old school hip hop – and definitely the Spice Girls. (Baby Spice is my hero)

Khaledzou: If you haven’t heard of us, you may have heard some of our songs before. The music we make has been featured in over 100 ads and videos by companies like Fenty Beauty, eBay, Xbox, Google, and Target.

K808: We’re always making things. We’re a couple, and we write, produce, shoot and edit our own videos together – all out of our apartment in Studio City. We recently released a new song called “Go-Go A-Go-Go” (check it out on our YouTube page!) – it’s personally my favorite song we’ve ever made.

Khaledzou:… yet!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
K808: We’ll be releasing a new single called “don’t stop (drip, drip drop) at the end of this month, and a video shortly after.

Khaledzou: Our current goal is to release a song and video every month. It’s been a great challenge and is a cool way to us on our toes and inspired.

K808: And we just finished a line of merch that we’re really excited about!! It’s available on our website.
