Meet Justin Lin of Line and Roots Photography in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Lin.

Justin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2008, my business partners and I fell in love with photography. Initially, we were drawn to weddings because of the emotion, the excitement, the opportunity to showcase relationships, and everything else that came with these beautiful moments.

But with all of the excitement, the most fulfilling part of our jobs was always the connection to the couples and their families. They entrusted us to document the most important day in their lives, and our artistry became a part of their family history.

This is why we started Line and Roots Photography – to continue the relationships that we made from our wedding photography clients and to extend our role of documenting family history to other major life events.

We applied the same award-winning artistry that shook up the wedding world to maternity, newborn and family photography. We celebrate family relationships and bonds. We capture life moments, from a first pregnancy to a sixth grandchild. We’re there to photograph each precious moment with expressive imagery that tells a family story.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning and operating a photography business is not without its challenges. The primary struggle from the beginning (and continuing on to today), is finding the time to get everything done. The list of tasks include, among many other things, booking clients, creating content for the website, developing the style of photography and post production, continual education for the team, social media marketing, and of course, the actual photography.

Luckily, we have an incredible team of photographers to get the job done. But there’s always more to do without an end in sight. We’ve learned to embrace it, however, and enjoy the journey.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Line and Roots Photography – what should we know?
Line and Roots specializes in artistic newborn, maternity and family photography. We are most proud of our overall client experience from start to finish with families who come back year after year, trusting us with documenting their history. We’re also proud of the team of photographers we’ve built who all agree on the same core values:

ADOPT EXTREME OWNERSHIP
We understand that leadership is a two-way street going up and down the chain of command. Each individual of the team takes ownership of their own actions as well as the actions of the team. We practice the principle of looking out the window with success, and into the mirror with each failure.

EMBRACE CREATIVITY
We believe creativity is heightened through thinking differently and embracing diversity. We continually expand our creativity, not only in photography and cinema but also in the everyday approach to solving problems.

BE CLIENT OBSESSED
We succeed when our clients are happy. Our clients are our true North, those who make it possible to make a living doing what we love.

SUPPORT AND EMPOWER
We believe that family is a verb, defined by actions, not by words. We invest in each other through sacrifice, support, compassion, and love. We create a safe, non-judgemental, family environment focused on the betterment of each other. “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” – Henry Ford

SHARPEN THE AXE
We are a passionate group of creatives that believe success occurs at the intersection of talent, hard work, and humility. We embrace new challenges, humbly seek out learning opportunities, and continue to grow in your personal and professional lives. “The best things in life are on the other side of fear.” – Will Smith

BE INDUSTRY LEADERS
We set the standard everyone aspires to become through example. Beyond consistently delivering high-quality experiences and products, we continue to innovate in each of our areas, never settling for “good enough.”

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our everyday clients deserve all of the credit because they are our motivation and our true north. After them, it’s all about our team, their creativity, hard work, and collaboration make this all happen.
