Meet Josh Montijo, Mariah Carrillo, Isaac Rodriguez and Angelique Fustukjian of So I Got Fired

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Montijo, Mariah Carrillo, Isaac Rodriguez and Angelique Fustukjian.

Josh, Mariah, Isaac and Angelique can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Mariah – I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I met Josh, Isaac and Angelique at a gig we worked together in the summer of 2017. The conversation of starting a podcast began as a joke, then after I was fired from my job a few months later, the joke became a reality. We started So I Got Fired because the feeling of being fired, the feeling of failure, is so universal. It’s that feeling of having the rug pulled out from under you. Everyone can relate to a story like that, and everyone has a story like that.

Josh – After graduating from college in 2016, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in post-production. During that first year I got fired from not one, but two jobs. Navigating career-land is no easy task, so we started a podcast to dive into the murky waters of job-hood.

Isaac – I’ve always had a passion for music, which opened the doors to the world of audio. That combination evolved through the years, leading me through different experiences that eventually brought me out to LA, where I’ve had the privilege of creating a great podcast with some amazing people.

Angelique – I’m an LA-based actor that made the move to California in 2017 to pursue my career. While I wasn’t a part of the SIGF gang initially, I was invited on as a producer after the first 10 episodes. We’ve now released over 90 episodes, in addition to bonus content. The boys and I are from Arizona, making the gang ¾ AZ and ¼ LA, which I think is pretty neat.

Has it been a smooth road?
Mariah – Los Angeles is built on obstacles. Everything here takes three times longer and is three times harder than it has to be. So yes, there are many obstacles, but having a space to explore these experiences is so dope, plus I get to do it with my friends.

Josh – My road has had its share of potholes, but each one taught me a lesson. Getting fired is like getting dumped, it’s all in the rebound.

Isaac – It’s rare for anyone to find a smooth road in their journey, as there will always be some bumps and detours. I am no exception. I’ve experienced my share of struggles as I have navigated through life, but have found that with the right people by your side you can overcome anything.

Angelique – Navigating careers in a city like LA is a trip. I can’t keep up with the amount of jobs I’ve had since living in this town, but I suppose that’s why we have a show.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
SIGF is a comedy podcast based out of LA that sheds light on the realities of being fired, laid off, quitting, or simply being in insane work environments altogether. We are all so honest and each of us adds something different to the show. We are most proud of how we’ve been able to bring both laughs and inspiration to our listeners each week through the diverse conversations we’ve been able to have. What makes SIGF special is how the concept helps others realize that simply talking about losing jobs and finding a way to laugh about it is healing in and of itself.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the best city on earth. The people make the city. Everyone here has a story to tell, and the city is full of young individuals going through the same job ups and downs that we are. While a person can start a podcast from anywhere, if they’re in LA it is one of the best places to start a podcast.
