Meet Jon Vlachogiannis of AgentRisk in Mar Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Vlachogiannis.

Jon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I fell in love with programming very early – when I was around eight years old. My mother took me to a summer camp where they had computers and I loved the fact that I could build (and destroy!) things without any restrictions. I felt like a painter in a room full of empty canvases and free paint!

Fast forward twelve years, I started working for a tech company as an engineer and a couple of years later, I started my own Startup. Since then (16 years later!) I had four Startups, made tons of friends, traveled the whole world and lived as a digital nomad. I strongly believe that “Home is where I have access to wifi”.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ha, I wish! I don’t know if you are familiar with a thing called “the emotional roller coaster” but it is kind of terrible. Your mental state goes from “I AM THE KING OF THE WORLD” to “I am a fake, I worth nothing, everything is so wrong” every couple of days. Or hours. It is called “The Entrepreneurs condition” and it happens to all of us. Oh, and there is literally nothing you can do about it to stop.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the AgentRisk story. Tell us more about the business.
We help people like us, entrepreneurs, manage their money. We are self-made and we manage our own money exactly with the same technology for our customers. We are very open about what we do, why we do it and we even publish our algorithms. We truly believe that algorithms should manage your money so you can focus on building great stuff.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in networks, friends, and passion.

Life is such an interesting game and we should never label things as good or bad. It is what it is.
