Meet John Flavia of Foxy Print in Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Flavia.

John – please share your story with us.
I started off in the garment industry at age 23 while working at Sangria restaurant on Hermosa pier. I started a clothing line called Integrity Board Sports in an effort to remain true to my surf and skate roots while at the same time promoting a positive image for the industry which at the time was plagued with trashy brands.

I had the brand for 5 years and sold to over 60 accounts all over California. I knew nothing of overhead and went out of business, from there I apprenticed in the garment industry downtown and paid some dues. I started out in business again as Dog Flavia and after a 4-year run bankrupted with 400k in the hole. That is what it took for me to wake up and step up to become the practical, successful, fair-minded business owner I am today. Foxy and I are debt free, offer the best prices, best quality, and fastest turn around to all of their loyal clients…Foxy Print has been soaring the last 10 years.

I now give talks at high schools to business classes on what not do, and how to keep your overhead low and be practical.

I met the love of his life also with Garmento roots…Alicia Zamparelli pro beach volley ball player and fashion stylist. Alicia’s mom Elsa Zamparelli is Oscar nominated and Emmy winning wardrobe designer for movies such as Dances with Wolves. Alicia grew up working on sets with her mom and now has a great styling business of personal and Hollywood clients.

Alicia has made Foxy Print so much better offering her expertise as all as her fair-minded work ethic.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Foxy Print – what should we know?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Larry Medell of Peanut Butter Apparel, Ben Brown of Beobe Apparel and Richard Pola of RP and Associates.

Bill Sledetal (was my AA sponsor when I first Bankrupted my old business, and has been my friend of r the last 9 years) The stress of my old business was so great I turned to drinking on the nightly basis just to deal…have been sober for 9 years now, Jim Kelly (father figure and a good influence), Dan Kuzdzal  also a father figure and a good influence.

Elsa Zamparelli, was financially supportive when we first were starting to get back on our feet, and taught Alicia a very valuable skill set that benefits our business and our family.
