Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Rodriguez.
Joanna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a little girl, I would draw, paint and create things out of anything I can get my hands on. With photography, it’s my canvas that I can to create life and art. The world through my lens is always full of love, laughter and precious memories. The people I meet along the way inspire me and over the years I’ve learned to be a great story teller through my photography. I love what I do!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a self-taught photographer, I would say that the road wasn’t always easy. There was a lot of trial and error at the beginning and taking workshops that help me with my technical skills. Even with all that I learned, I would say, there is still room to grow. I am still learning as I go.
Jo Rodriguez Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Jo Rodriguez Photography specialize in maternity, newborn and family photography. What sets me apart from my competitors is that my work is always creative and tells my client’s unique story.
In my maternity sessions, my goal is always to help the mommy-to-be to feel beautiful. I try to capture her radiance, the growing miracle and the romance of the couple that blossomed into pregnancy. My photography style is natural and I keep it light and fun when we take the pictures. Some couples feel like it’s engagement photography all over again, and it some ways, shouldn’t it be?
I love, newborn and family photography. Newborn sessions are studio sessions done in the comfort of my client’s home. 3-7 days after birth, I photograph the newborns in a variety of set ups and props to create sweet images of the baby. I always include some intimate family photos of the new parents holding their newborn. There is really nothing like new parents looking into the eyes of their little miracles!
My photography has mostly been inspired by my life as a daughter, wife, a mother and the most important element, my faith. In the last few years, I’ve been the photographer for Holy Yoga, a Christian yoga organization. I photograph yogis who set their intention on Jesus as their center for their breath, movements and postures. My photography has moved from not only about life and love, but it’s moved into worship and faith expressed through yoga. My “Catalyst Yoga Photography” is about the spark that happens when someone’s life is touched by faith and I am able capture moments in worship that reaches beyond the here and now.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proud moments can be so simple. The emails that I get saying “Thank you” for taking photos of the family and they will treasure it always. Or when my clients make large canvas prints and hang up the images in their homes. Makes me so happy to know that I am able create lasting memories for others.
