Meet Jessica Bell of JessB Love Beauty in Carson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Bell.

Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
First, I want to give an honor to God who is truly the head of my life. Life as an entrepreneur has been amazing. I have always had a passion for pretty much anything beauty (skin, hair, nails) you name it! But the exciting thing about loving makeup and mastering this craft is my creative juices are forever flowing. I’ve been doing makeup professionally for four years now and my business is truly blessed and will continue to be because I believe that.

For a long time, I was afraid of officially turning my craft into a business because the approval of others and what others thought of my work weighed on me heavily. I then started off with my friends and family who loved my worked and eventually, I got to work with a friend of a friend, who in turn referred me to someone they knew and my career in makeup started to grow in a way that I truly thank God for. Social media helped me out a great deal and because of Instagram, I’ve had the opportunity to work with two celebrities so far and I’m optimistic that great things will continue to happen during my journey as a professional makeup artist.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth but the hard times helped me appreciate the good ones. I can say my most difficult struggle was putting myself and my business out to the world unapologetically. I cared if people thought I was good enough to do what I love. I compared my work to other artist and allowed it to discourage me. I overcame those fears by building my relationship and faith in God, meditating and valuing the importance of confidence. I’m now in the best place compared to when I first started and I’m excited for what’s next.

So predominately, I do makeup but I also know skincare and I do hair occasionally. However, as a makeup artist what my clients can expect from me is my ability to color match based off shade ranges, undertones and skin types. I am skilled in color correcting and understanding client’s problematic areas so that the appropriate prep product is applied to ensure best makeup application. I pride myself and what sets me apart from other artists is that I make every experience for each client a personable one. My last client could never tell my next client what I’ll do for them in terms of preparation and application because chances are there will be variations based off not preferences but as well as the state of my client’s skins. Most makeup artists are not that invested into this level of makeup application and heavily rely on expensive brand names to “get by”. I have a reputation to uphold whether my crowd is small or large but I will always be known for providing quality work as I grow.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Los Angeles and I don’t see myself going anywhere! Everything is accessible and so many events and good people are here to network with and that has definitely helped with my career growth. I can’t say too much about what I don’t like about our city, except the traffic! Ugh! and as a traveling artist it can be pretty painful to sit in LA traffic at times.
