Meet Jess Foster of Little Shop of Oils

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Foster.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Brief backstory… I grew up in the desert and always loved being creative and helping people.

After graduating High School, I ended up at FIDM in LA, studying Marketing and Business Managment. While studying there, I wasn’t quite sure I was on the right path so I started thinking of my happiness and what goals in life I wanted, Motherhood. Being as I was 19, and single, that was out of the question. So I did the next best thing, I enrolled in a Birth Doula program! I know what you thinking is this chick crazy?

Demanding Design school AND helping women birth babies, but I did it and I am happy I did both… After working with mothers and babies for five years, and still single, naturally, I became a nanny.

After a few years, I forgot to take care of the most important thing, MYSELF. The biggest Anxiety attack crippled me and forced me into some serious self-care. Through a Reiki healer, some meds and lots and lots and LOTS of oils, I was able to come out of the haze and realize I just did something magical. This is where Little Shop was born, I finally birthed my first baby.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would say its always been an uphill battle for me struggling with Anxiety. Before I started, I had a complete panic attack breakdown, everything was giving me anxiety! So I went to what I knew best, oils, crystals and art. I was working like a maniac, testing oils on myself, figuring out what oils helped with what moods and what oils blended well together. All of this was so healing for me and eventually, I too broke off my cloud of panic and wanted to share this with everyone I knew who had similar issues.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Little Shop of Oils story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in Natural Gemstone Infused Apothecary. We basically make witches brew and snake oils all day, j/k I wish.

We love a good ritual, I think we’re best known for the candles or our Full Moon Ritual kits, which happens to be my favorites because so much of my time goes into them. I really try to personalize them and also collab with another small business each month to make them extra special. Dream Mist is another great product we can’t keep on the shelf, who doesn’t love sleep?

Every day I wake up and still can’t believe I get to do this, I wish there was a bigger word than gratitude. Thank you for the stars aligning and making all my dreams come true.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I definitely see more people trending towards holistic remedies and learning more about crystals as opposed to traditional medicine. I hope to see the consistent growth of a female-owned business, as for myself I just hope I keep afloat and get to continue to do what I love.
