Meet Jeriel Sydney of Fable Soap Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeriel Sydney.

Fable Soap Company is an all-natural, small-batch Skincare Company with a promise of high quality and ethically sourced ingredients. Made by hand in California, the brand includes a wide range of products suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive and those with skin disorders.

Establishing a community around farmers, makers, creators, and small businesses has been the largest driving force behind the success of Fable Soap Company. Knowing where the ingredients come from, and interacting with shop owners and fellow makers has curated an ever-changing brand philosophy and a deep desire to be at the forefront of social, political, and economic equality.

Owned by women, and run by women, Fable Soap Company understands the importance of building a brand with a purpose. For every retail bar of soap purchased, a bar is donated to a women’s shelter across the country.

This program strives to provide access to hygienic and safe cleansing to women and children who are fleeing or surviving domestic violence, economic instability, or environmental catastrophe.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have definitely had our ups and downs. I never saw Fable growing the way it has, so scaling up was overwhelming, but learning to manufacture in larger batches and make a tight manufacturing schedule has been incredible. Building a creative business can make you feel really vulnerable. When we launched our skincare line, there was some anxiety about having a product without a preservative.

Would it be risky and hard for people to receive? But I knew in my gut that it was the right move. People don’t want toxins and additives on their skin and in their bodies and seeing the way our community responded just validated what we are doing and how we are building our brand.

Learning to move with the highs and lows of business and not have it emotionally affect you has been a struggle for me personally as well. Luckily we have a great team and a beautiful community that have supported us through the process.

Please tell us about Fable Soap Company.
We specialize in natural body care and 100% Clean, non-toxic skin care. We are known for making a quality natural product.

When people think of Fable, they know that each ingredient is sourced with integrity and they can trust that the product is handmade with the highest of standards. I wanted to make a company people could have faith in, one that reflected my own (sometimes impossible) standards.

As a company, I am most proud of the community the products have created. We are fortunate to get to work with other woman-owned businesses that share the same ethos.

That is really what this was all about, making high-quality natural products for people who want to make better, healthier choices for the planet and for themselves… We really have been blessed with the most remarkable tribe.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have trusted myself a little bit more in the beginning. I knew right away that I had a great product, but I got caught up in advice from a friend about scaling up, I looked too far in the future, and it really stagnated my process.

If I had trusted my gut and really ran with my dream, with my goal, I would have been able to enjoy the beginning stages of my business more.
