Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Shamma.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got started for the love of food and the love of adventure. I felt it was time to take my schedule into my own hands. The last job that I had as an employee was wonderful but having any time off to travel, explore or just rest was impossible. I felt that the money I was working for was not worth the time that I was losing with my family and with myself. So I left it to the universe, I took the leap of faith and ventured out on my own. Starting The 2nd Fork was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I got to where I am with hard work and positivity.
Doubt definitely happened along the way but I learned to take all the nos’ as just one step closer to a yes. Eventually, it worked! I am now a proud owner and operator of what I hope to soon be a household name, The 2nd Fork!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been far from a smooth road but that has paved the way for some amazing things. Some of the struggles my company and I have faced have ranged from struggling to get permits to struggling to find the right client base. Some other struggles we faced we’re finding the right vendors for us, people that care about food as much as we do; you could even call it love! We’re happy to say all those things have worked themselves out naturally and were onward to smooth sailing!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Here at The 2nd Fork, we pride ourselves on food, quality over quantity any day. We can accommodate anyone and any event, from catering to meal planning to private dinners. We specialize in custom menus, and satisfying our clients is our number one goal. We don’t believe food has limitations so we don’t limit our clients. We know and understand that everyone’s pallet is different with different desires and needs, we’re proud to be able to accommodate them all. We only use locally sourced and grown ingredients. We love knowing the hands that handled our food. We roll with the seasons, what they bring we bring on! We even go as far as having our own garden plot of fresh herbs year-round and our own seasonal fruits and vegetables! I believe these things are what sets us apart from other companies! For the love of food, everyone’s got to eat!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a bit of a tomboy. I grew up surrounded by boys from my brother to all my cousins who are like siblings to me; I was the youngest and the only girl in the pack. This taught me strength, in more ways than one and likely molded me into the person I am today.
As a child, I dream of being a professional soccer player, with a backup plan as a veterinarian. My obsession with animals and soccer started at a very young age. Some of my other interests were helping my mom in the kitchen, riding my bike and exploring the neighborhood as far as I was allowed to go. Picking flowers was a must and pushing boundaries happened often. I was and still am a happy go lucky, adventurous person I am always looking on the bright side of things. I was often known to be the jokester or the prankster of the clan, I think all this plays into my headstrong, carefree attitude. One of my biggest mottos is and will always be “What’s the worst that can happen?” I never saw anything as impossible and I don’t think I ever will.
