Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Vitale L.Ac..
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jenna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve come to where I am today through the desire to help people along their path.
I was introduced to the world of healing at 18 years old when I had a personal awakening. Through adolescence and early adulthood, I struggled with anxiety and navigating the twist and turns of life while discovering who I am. I pondered questions with deep seriousness- what does it mean to live a life of purpose? Why am I here? And what actually makes me feel fulfilled? How as a society and as individuals, do we deal with the challenges of the present and trauma of our past while looking ahead to build a future? It was in this uncertainty and through the uncomfortable process of deepening my sense of self-awareness that I developed a perspective rooted in self-healing.
I became grounded in the philosophy that life itself is a series of opportunities for growth, reflection and correction- all with the purpose to move us forward on our path.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine naturally followed in suit with my passion. It is a medicine based on the energetics of the mind, body and spirit. For example, physical pain is an experience not separate from the emotional and mental body. Illness occurs when there is a separation or imbalance of the yin (introspective, feminine) energy and yang (external, masculine) energy of the being.
Acupuncture is just one tool we can use for healing, among many. My belief is that the healing we experience comes from within- our level of well-being is an inside job.
Has it been a smooth road?
In studying and maintaining the role of practitioner, there is a certain amount of self- sacrifice and time committed to learning and thriving in the art of healing.
I thoroughly enjoy the journey I’m on but it has definitely involved a lot of time, energy and it’s share of challenges.
I am a firm believer that you cannot give anything that you don’t own, so a huge part of being a practitioner is constant self-care & self-cultivation. Serving as a support system for people on a regular basis requires keeping my own “Qi” or life force strong by getting plenty of rest, eating properly and having balanced emotions.
Being an acupuncture physician involves continual studying- expanding upon knowledge and resources to better help patients. Many people don’t know that in order to obtain a license to practice acupuncture & herbs to begin with, one must undergo extensive schooling – a master’s degree minimum with over 3,000 hours of training. The program involves learning Eastern Medicine theory, an advanced science dating back thousands of years, as well as western biomedicine.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Heart Based Health story. Tell us more about the business.
I founded and named my practice Heart Based Health as a way to affirm that healing is rooted in the center or spirit. In Chinese medicine, the “Shen” or consciousness is housed in the heart and directly impacts how we perceive and interact with the world.
The conditions I treat range from aches and pains including phantom conditions that have no known cause to anxiety disorders to helping women have pain-free asymptomatic menstrual cycles. The majority of my patients, after they’ve healed from their initial condition, continue to come in bi-weekly for the incredible benefits of acupuncture – enhanced mental focus, peace and a strong immune system.
The treatments I offer involve acupuncture, bodywork, cupping, essential oil therapy, sound healing & medical massage. Each session is different-no two treatments alike…
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My belief is that natural medicine is the future and healing in general is an upward trend that is essential for the growth and evolution of humanity.
I see an increase in the number of people who are receiving acupuncture, herbs and holistic medicine for the first time and saying “wow, how did I not try this before?”. Not only is it surprisingly effective but it is also very enjoyable.
Personally, I look forward to helping society shift, grow and transform through the use of this amazing medicine.
