Meet Jen Rottenberg of Dsnv Marketing Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Rottenberg.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had a passion for sports from a young age – playing virtually anything and everything I could try. After graduating college, I found myself in a job that did not inspire me. I reassessed and decided I wanted to get into sports. I went back to school, got my MBA, snagged a coveted internship at IMG and from there I was “off to the races.” I have been working full time in the industry since a week after graduating from business school. I’ve worked in sports ranging from the Arena Football League to Water Polo and virtually anything and everything in between. In 2007, I started dsnv Marketing Group as a sports marketing agency with the ethos of “doing well by doing good,” and a focus on delivering above and beyond for our clients. I’ve run the company sporadically since then – taking detours along the way, including serving as CMO of USA Water Polo during the 2012 London Olympic Games, where the US women won gold – an incredible experience.

Much of my expertise lies at the intersection of sports, media and technology and I focus on the integration of non-traditional forms of marketing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s not been entirely smooth – whatever is? My first bump came in my late 20’s when my naivete regarding international sports politics contributed to the demise of one venture. Another came in the late 2000’s when the stock market crash and collapse of the housing market that put the entire country (and world) into “The Great Recession” caused the loss of our title sponsor for the Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic and, sadly, resulted in the end of the event after only three years. Designed to raise funds for the LPGA’s Girls Golf Program and the Women’s Sports Foundation, as the only celebrity golf event featuring all female celebrities, it was very disappointing that we had to completely shut the program down.

Dsnv Marketing Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At dsnv Marketing Group, we help our clients reach their goals by building their brands – through unique strategies and tactics – and maximizing their revenue-generation opportunities through sponsorship sales, licensing, e-commerce development and operations, and the creation and operation of revenue-generating events.

With nearly two decades of experience in non-traditional marketing, dsnv’s principals develop strategies to grow our clients’ businesses and creative solutions to maximize their brands in the marketplace.

But, more importantly, we don’t just provide advice. We implement! dsnv Marketing Group moves with each of our clients from concept to execution to goal achievement and ROI measurement.

We are most proud of the core of our mission, which is to do well by doing good.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success means exceeding expectations, while helping others exceed theirs. On any given project or for any given program, there might be individual criteria that define success. But overall, I subscribe to the philosophy that a rising tide lifts all boats.
