Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Carbajal.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeanette. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my career in the Restoration Construction industry with my family. We were bound and determined to be the greatest force the construction industry had ever seen. Until the universe taught us all a very important lesson about cause and effect, even we were not infallible to acts of nature.
My grandmother, father, mother, and myself all started showing different symptoms as our bodies fought against illness after illness. Eventually, my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. We went through test after test, doctor after doctor in an experience that left our family drained and torn apart.
While my grandmother eventually went into the stage of no growth of cancer, her process to recovery was cut short when she passed due to co-health issues. The weight of this cancer experience shook our family to its foundation.
Cancer was not a foreign concept to us. My grandfather went through a cancer experience shortly before his passing, but it was as if we had “diagnosis amnesia”. It felt like our first time on the cancer rollercoaster where we had no control or influence over our experience and were forced to sit as passengers while outsiders determined the course and outcome of our “Journey”.
As our family attempted to stitch itself back together, I was determined to help create a better future for people who are experiencing cancer. I began studying, seeking out professionals in the field, earning accreditations, and building up a presence in the local and global community as a cancer coach. My career is now dedicated to helping cancer professionals best serve their clients by understanding their patient’s valid fears, empowering them in their experience, and confidently serving their clients by being their first and best advocate.
Together we are building a Healing Army dedicated to ensuring that future cancer patients are never ostracized, bullied, or failed by well-intentioned people who simply don’t know how to confidently support and serve them.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Lack of Information: When I began, there was no accessible information on how to enter this space as a cancer coach. Everything I learned was learned the hard way — through time, determination, passion, and grit.
My mindset: I was knowledgeable about cancer but lacked the confidence to serve my clients as their best advocate in a world that often sees a diagnosis before a person. It took practice, time, and a lot of grace from my clients and medical professionals. Eventually, I crafted that hard-won wisdom into seven steps on how to confidently enter the cancer coaching industry and become the local go-to cancer professional.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Experience Health By Jeanette has two focuses: serving leaders after a diagnosis impacts their life and business, and teaching cancer wellness professionals how to confidently serve their clients.
Cancer Coaching
I’m known for my proven strength-based approach to navigate client’s cancer experience and help people live abundant lives. We work on loosening the bonds of negative thinking while supporting clients to reclaim their sense of self and belonging beyond their diagnosis. Together we change lifestyle habits, mindset, explore possibilities and gain control of life once again.
Resilient Cancer Coach Accelerator
The Resilient Cancer Coach Accelerator is designed with cancer professionals and coaches in mind. When I began in this space, there was no information on how to take my cancer knowledge and apply it to my business in a way that best serves my client in their experience. I give the hard-won wisdom on how to be a light to our clients, be fueled by passion and strategy, but also protect our emotional wellbeing in the process. The accelerator takes this knowledge and develops a clear business and mindset roadmap for professionals to create their thriving cancer coaching business.
What were you like growing up?
While in middle school and high school, I began leading and writing within various philanthropic clubs and organizations.
I was the president of the Southern Californian Leo’s club, which is a subset of the Lion’s club, doing community work. We worked in senior centers, volunteered at the rehabilitation centers, led beach cleanups. I’ve always been interested in giving back and empowering those who society often overlooks.
I always gravitated towards being a leader amongst my peers and in the community. This was shown after four years in the high school circuit, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors gave me the Volunteer of the Year.
Even as a child, I always loved personal development. I picked up my first Tony Robbins CD in eleventh grade and became obsessed with psychologists and how they can help people through talking.
These things really paved the way for me to be where I am today.
