Jazzmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a Combat Sports Healthcare Consultant who specializes in fighter medicals, licensing, and insurance claims. I was born and raised in Ventura County, California and have always had a passion for sports.
At the age of 19, I moved to Las Vegas, NV and started my career in medical billing/medical administration. After working several positions in Sports Medicine, my passion and concern for athlete health and safety led me to an exciting role with the best fight organization in the world! As an Athlete Medical Coordinator for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, I assisted athletes competing in domestic and international UFC events, The Ultimate Fighter reality show, and Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. In addition, I took on the responsibility of medical logistics which enabled me to work with emergency medical services while monitoring the health and safety of athletes. This position allowed me to build a large and impressive physician network and relationships with state athletic commissions nationwide.
In 2018, I decided to step outside of the box and start my own business, Athlete Medical Management. My business caters to all fighters and promoters who require assistance with their medicals and licensing process.
Although a majority of my clients are based in LA, I am able to work comfortably from Las Vegas while raising my teenage daughter as a single mother. To me, entrepreneurship was about creating my dream lifestyle and nothing is more important than freedom and flexibility.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has not been smooth at all. I faced several challenges when it came to networking and meeting genuine people. Because my niche is so unique, there aren’t very many people who can assist or give you advice when there are hurdles or roadblocks. I also find it challenging to build a business as a women in a world that’s dominated by men. Working extra hard to prove yourself and putting your foot down is something you constantly have to do.
