Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayden Braley.
Hi Jayden, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Greys Multimedia in late 2018, early 2019. I grew up around videography and photography because my dad is a filmmaker and my Nana was really into photography as a hobby.
I can proudly say that 2022 has been my best year yet. I have worked with so many amazing people and have put out projects that I put my heart and soul into. I have really taken the time to learn more about the cinematography aspect and have been using lighting more this time around. Back when I started, I mainly made what’s referred to as run-n-gun videos, which basically means you get your camera, just use natural lighting, and go to a bunch of different spots, typically outdoors.
I really wanted to up my game this year and focus more on lighting and making my videos look as cinematic as possible, and I really feel like it shows.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s always a challenge involved in this industry. There’s a lot of competition and it can be hard to stand out. I’ve been really shying away from trying to do the same thing that a lot of other people are doing. While I want to fit in, I also want to stand out. I wholeheartedly agree that everyone has to find their own style and make it the best that it can be.
My biggest challenge last year was the death of my Nana, Carol Braley. She has always been a huge inspiration to me, and after she passed away, I was honestly lost for a long time. It wasn’t until 2022 that I really had to peel myself off the ground and get back to it. This year, everything I did, it was to make my Nana proud.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do a multitude of things, but what I specialize in is music videos. I direct, shoot and edit all my videos. I couldn’t even pick my favorite video from this year because I love them all, but if I absolutely had to, it would probably have to be “Tough Guy” by an AMAZING band called Rare Hearts. So much time and effort went into that video. We had an amazing cast and crew. My dad actually drove all the way down from Colorado to help me out with it.
One thing that I am extremely proud of is the mini indoor music festival that myself and a dear friend of mine Lesley Lee put on at the Old Towne Pub in Pasadena back in September. It was called Greys Music Bash. We had 7 bands/artists, a taco stand, and sold merch. We put the whole thing together in about 2 months, and we sold over 105 tickets! It was so incredibly fun! We are planning on putting on another show next year, so keep an eye out!
I feel like what sets me apart from other people would have to be my work ethic. I pride myself on getting my videos edited very quickly. When I sit down for an editing session, I usually work on average about 12-15 hours on it in just one sitting. Having ADHD really helps if I’m being honest haha, I hyper-focus like a madman.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Altadena is an amazing city. What I love most about it is the diversity of creatives. We have a little bit of everything here, from classic rock, metal, hip hop, R&B, you name it, we have it.
I honestly don’t have many dislikes about the city. I love just it so much and I try to shout it out as much as I can.
