Meet Jamari Perry of Red Locust Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamari Perry.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2012, my colleague Katrelle Kindred and her brother Patrick Kindred approached me about creating an entertainment company. Katrelle and I had worked together quite a bit in film school at USC and we became a well-oiled machine so I leaped at the opportunity. We decided to create our production company because we knew we were the only ones that could tell our stories and deliver our experiences.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With production, struggle is a given. There is no progress as a production company without a struggle. We have struggled to build our brand over the years. We are a company founded with 2/3 women and 3/3 African American.

Therefore, our company provides a very unique voice that is inevitable veiled with the African American experience. Our goal is to use this as our strength as this specific lens equips us with a passion for social justice and a yearning for equality.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Red Locust Entertainment, LLC – what should we know?
Red Locust Entertainment, LLC is a production company that specialized in creating media content for the web, theatre and festivals. We are proud of our ability to tell stories that penetrate the mind and bring humanity to stories that are against the dominant narrative.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality that is most important to our success is to stay authentic to our experiences as human beings. We can only rely on our own true experiences in order to make heartfelt and knee-jerking material that resonates with our audience. I’m so excited to keep exploring myself and allowing my journey to impact the type of films I create.
