Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jake McGrew. Jake was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Chris Phillips.
Hi Jake, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I play professional hockey, and when I was 17 I was playing in Spokane, Washington for the Spokane Chiefs and that was my NHL draft year and I was lucky enough to get drafted by the San Jose Sharks, despite not playing a single game because of an injury, and that’s kind of when Everything changed. I collided with our goalie and practice and tore my MCL,ACL and PCL. We weren’t sure how bad it was but come to find out I needed surgery on each ligament and rehab was nine months so that took a toll on my mental and physical state not being able to play hockey for a full year. That Christmas I started rehab with Chris Phillips, Compete Sports Performance and Rehab I fast forward three years down the road in a game I decided to get in a fight I got knocked out and ended up needing. ACLMCLPCL surgery again. And that was right before my first full year Pro in San Jose. Played there for 3 years after that I signed in Stockholm, Sweden, and 10 games and we had a game and in the second. I collided with a guy, and turns out tore my ACL and my other knee. And now doing rehab on that one currently with Chris Phillips who I’ve been with since I was 17
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
My name is Jacob mcgrew My career is as a professional hockey player. It all started when I was about six playing roller hockey on the street with buddies and friends. Hockey has taught me a lot about work ethic commitment and the never quitting attitude I think what sets me apart from others is knowing that as a Christian athlete, I don’t play the game for my phone glory. I play it because God‘s giving me the gifts to play a sport for a living and to be as talented as I am, but talent means nothing if you don’t work hard every day and I think that goes hand-in-hand in sport, and in life
Chris Phillips and Compete Sports Performance and Rehab have been great to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship with them as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Chris Phillips and Compete Sports Performance and Rehab and your experience with them.
My experience with chris Has really been nothing short of amazing I’ve been with him since I was 17 years old and honestly from the first day I walked in to that facility I felt welcomed comfortable cared for just kind of knew that I was in the right hand I think, from being in hockey, and having that in common and him, knowing the game, and knowing what goes into it, and just a mutual respect has been great I admire and love everyone in the gym, the trainers it’s really like a family and I think it helps for athletes that are in there to feel comfortable and I think one thing that I really admire is that whether it’s a six year old or a 10-year-old in any sport to a professional in any sport they expect a lot and they’re always teaching and they’re always is room for improvement in their eyes and that I’ve trained plenty of other places but there’s no one that I trust more with my body and my time in my career more than Chris
