Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel Cooper.
Isabel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was three years old, I discovered a passion that has stuck with me all the way into my young adulthood, dancing. It has always been a love of mine. Dance allows me to escape reality and truly feel the present moment while getting to know myself. Last year I decided to attend Studio School Los Angeles to further my education and I am currently a sophomore dance major there. Everyday at school and studios around the North Hollywood area, such as KreativMndz or Movement Lifestyle, I train and dance from early morning until late at night. It has been an amazing journey getting to grow and learn from teachers and choreographers in one of the top cities for the dance industry, and I cannot wait to see where my future dance career will take me.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Most dancers know that within a relationship with dance, there is always a little bit of both love and hate. Typically it changes everyday, depending on the circumstances. There is a struggle to not judge yourself, compare yourself to others or even simply move somedays. However, dance can also be a beautiful way of self-discovery, learning and also growing with other people who help you along the way. Dance is forever changing and it can be hard to keep up. The more you take from it, the more you are summoned to give, which is what I am currently coming to understand. It is not always easy, but dancing is my passion and will always be worth the long, sweaty days.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a student at studio school, everyday we go to class and take from teachers that are currently working in the industry. Styles that are taught include ballet, contemporary, hiphop, jazz funk, and tumbling. Dance majors take other classes as well such as American Cinema, where we learn all about the history of Hollywood and acting too. The college is on a studio plot, LA Center Studios, where somedays we even get to witness the filming of certain tv shows and movies, which is always intriguing and fun and sets this college apart from others. Studio School is one of the only schools that has a commercial dance program which is also another reason why this school is so unique and special.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been very blessed and lucky to be able to live my dream everyday in Los Angeles. I stumbled upon Studio School through a dancer’s Instagram that I did not know at the time late in my second semester of senior year. I was planning to go to a different college at the time and I spontaneously chose to apply, which ended up being it one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
