Meet Isabel Canas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel Canas.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have been so in love with flowers and plants-life since as far I can remember. One of my earliest and most beautiful memories as a child is of operating my own little pomegranate-plant business. I would grow, Tend to and then sell my plants from my own garden. However, I know that I was born with the LOVE for flowers and plants. I walked away from the corporate life and pursued what made me the happiest – Flowers. One particular detail I cannot forget to mention is that every so often. I have the opportunity to work alongside of my son Dennis Roy Coronel who is a Wedding Photographer and former interview subject of Voyage LA. He’s the one responsible for pushing me to leave my job and pursue my dreams.

So here I am doing what I love most and doing my part in helping brides realize their dream weddings.

Please tell us about your art.
As a floral Designer in the wedding industry I consider my style to be a little unique in my current local market. I draw a lot of my inspiration from what I see around me and not at the market or trends. I love to forage wherever and whenever I can. Whether it is from bougainvilleas draping over a fence from abandoned lot or even my friends backyards. (Always ask for permission 🙂 )

I am absolutely drawn to a more natural and foraged look and that is clear in my designs. I feel that brings a beautiful element to my cityscape surroundings. Not always in search of clean lines or designs. But gravitate more-so towards natural designs that look like they were just plucked from a field.

The most important message I would love to share with others is that it is never too late.
Passion has no age, no expiration date and no obstacles that cannot be overcome in order to fulfill. Take it from me, an 17 year old immigrant who came to this country alone and now in current pursuit my lifelong passions.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I believe it is a lot easier to be an artist in this day and age. Through technology, you have the means to reach people and markets you otherwise would have gone through so many hurdles to reach. The sky is a limit!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Well! Most of the Brides find me via Instagram is great Platform for me. Also Facebook.
