Today we’d like to introduce you to Ina Jungmann.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born in Germany, lived in Japan for six years when I was a child and moved to Los Angeles in my teenage years. The difficulty of having to learn another language with every move made me uneasy with verbal communication. The upside of this was that it made me explore the world visually. Art and design was something universal and I always wanted to pursue it.
Please tell us about your art.
Photography seems to be a simple matter yet it does not capture the reality nor what we perceive. I like the challenge to experiment and find the special places in between reality, subjectivity, and abstraction. I photograph whatever comes to me, walking in new cities, counties, districts and capture the experiences and feelings that I had in these areas. Like writing an entry in a diary, it is a deeply personal experience when I photograph and move through these places. When I return to my studio and begin putting the project together, I find that the images start to tell a story through my eyes, and I begin to see these places differently as if they appeared in my dreams. Using different photographic techniques such as multiple exposures, I hope to spark imagination.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success is a subjective measurement and while I am happy for every finished project, gallery show, publication, and compliment I get, success is not a driver for me. It is an ongoing process. If I am not taking photographs, I am drawing, painting, crafting, or creating designs for books. My belief is, it’s important to be authentic and to stay true to oneself and achieving that means never stop creating.

I’m also currently evaluating the next Gallery space to exhibit in Los Angeles.
