Meet Hollywood Wardrobe Stylist: Teresita Marie Madrigal

Today we’d like to introduce you to the lovely Teresita Marie Madrigal.

Teresita Marie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
You are the creator of your own paradise.

I was raised to take care of my family. I attended FIDM and graduated from college in business and found a full-time job. At that time I was 21 and I was the most successful out of all my friends. But I knew something was missing. In 2010 I started a fashion blog and in 2013 I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in fashion.

I assisted for a long time and worked with some of LA’s & NY’s top tier stylists. Now, I style some incredible people and work with amazing production companies that I can call my friends. It’s been a hard rough road and only have myself to depend on. But you know what they say, you won’t be given something in life that you cannot handle.

What are your plans for the future?
I’d love to be signed to an agency in Los Angeles within the next year, gain more exposure on the red carpet, book more gigs on film projects. I’d love to focus more on costume rather than lifestyle styling.

I’d love to represent my city and my culture by showing that I’m able to live my dreams. My plans are to be a great stylist that can pave the way for others to succeed in the same field as well.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story. What was the hardest time you’ve had?
The hardest part of my career is holding onto my dream when things can be rough. I haven’t had an issue with booking work, it’s actually getting busier and busier. I’ve had difficulty getting along with the things that people in my industry say to you. You get thrown under the bus every day, someone always has something negative to say and you have to stay up, keep smiling and look forward to what’s next. Each gig is singular, and the next one will be different. Getting to know new people, whether good or bad is exciting to me. That means I’m reaching higher and deeper into my success. Even through the roughest gigs, I know once it’s over, I have something else to add to my resume!

Do you ever feel like “Wow, I’ve arrived” or “I’ve made it” or do you feel like the bulk of the story is still unwritten?
My first music video was a video I styled for a new up and coming recording artist. It was unpaid but I had so many friends in showrooms that I was able to borrow so much from different amazing brands. I remember watching the last scene…and I started to feel emotional. I walked away and held my emotions together but that is when I realized, things are working out. If I can book something like this, I can do so much more.

I remember another time that happened this year actually. I styled my client’s tour. It was only for 3 shows but I was backstage with the entire team and when I looked outside our trailer, there was a line of a little over 3 blocks around the neighborhood waiting to meet and greet the artists. I get so focused on what my clients are going to wear, how much time I have to acquire these samples, that I pay more attention to brands…. rather than their fame. So I looked in the mirror and said…yep, we’re in the right direction.
