Meet Hollywood Fitness Trainer: Cory Suess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Suess.

Cory is a Personal Trainer, Crossfit L1 Trainer, and health junkie. And, a self-confessed fitness-addict.

He is originally from San Jose, California but moved down to Los Angeles when he was given an opportunity to attend and play football at the prestigious Occidental College. While attending Occidental College he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and was a four year NCCA athlete.

We asked him what sets him apart and he shared:

“It was during my time in college that I discovered an overwhelming passion for my own fitness, as well as helping to educate others. Today, I hold multiple certifications in the fitness industry and am always pushing to learn more. I specialize in Functional Fitness. What is “Functional Fitness?” Well… Have you ever struggled to bend down and pick something up off the floor? Or have a hard time putting your suitcase in the overhead storage bins on a plane? Functional Fitness is training in the gym to create a stronger YOU outside of the gym. It is a strength and conditioning based program to not only make you look the way you desire, but also allow you to live a stronger and healthier life. I am here to push you past your mental boundaries while at the same time create a FUN environment to work out.”

Cory’s journey hasn’t just been scholarships and football games. “Starting out as a personal trainer is extremely difficult. I was being paid $7.50 a session and spending 12-14 hours a day at the gym trying to pick up clients. I would wake up at 3:30am to be the gym by 4:30am and come home by 8-9pm. My internal struggle came from the fact that I had just graduated from Occidental College, which is one of the most prestigious and well regarded academic schools on the West Coast. President Obama went to school there. I held the degree in my hand many times and knew I could get a job immediately with a high salary. Yet here I was barely affording to pay my rent each month because I felt this overwhelming passion and satisfaction for working with people one on one giving them great workouts. This internal battle took place for over a year when i first began personal training. However, once I decided that this is what i was put on this earth to do, the wheels began to turn and I gained a confidence like never before.”

He started his own business, Suess Fitness, in 2013. “It was an absolutely terrifying yet excited feeling. No longer could I rely on anyone but myself to go out and find clients, run my business, or manage my payments. It was all on me. And I will tell you what, since that day I have never been happier.”  We’re so impressed with his life story, his drive and his commitment to functional fitness.

I’ve worked with Cory and trained with him for 3 years now. He really is an amazing trainer and coach. He’s also a really good person who has a vested interest in each client. He doesn’t rush sessions and takes each person individually. Great work Cory. Amazing.
