Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilary Hartling.
Hilary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For over 15 years, my personal brand identity was defined as a film marketing executive. I worked with global entertainment brands including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Touchstone and Dreamworks and was responsible for leveraging the synergy relationships of The Walt Disney Company and strategizing and executing integrated brand partnerships with external TV and cable networks to market our film releases. I loved my job!
Then, I began to realize I needed to up-level my career trajectory and personal growth and I could no longer get that at Disney. After taking a nice chunk of time off, I decided being my own boss and leveraging my marketing and branding experience to make a difference for entrepreneurs felt purposeful and like the right next step. Now, I’m a Brand Strategist helping visionary entrepreneurs clarify and elevate their brands to captivate
their audience and create businesses they love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every road worth taking has twists, turns, easy stretches and challenging climbs. I’ve found the transition from corporate to entrepreneurship to be hugely rewarding and a lot of hard work. The challenges along the way are the ones almost every entrepreneur faces: building a strategic brand that resonates, learning new skills and tools, how to market yourself online as social media changes constantly and mastering your mindset to believe in what you’re doing and the value you’re sharing.
That’s why I find my job so inspiring as I get to help other entrepreneurs navigate some of the same struggles I’ve had because I know on the other side of them, the view is great and the work is worth it.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always a social butterfly, people person, goal setter, go-getter and good friend. Because I grew up in Hawaii, I think I also absorbed the aloha spirit and tend to have an easy-going laid back attitude that is a good balance to my perfectionist tendencies.
I always loved school, movies, dancing (my college scholarship to University of Hawaii was for dance), interior design and traveling. And people always knew they could come to me for encouragement, advice, mentorship or just a smile.
