Meet Highland Park & Glendale Photographer: Robby Rodrick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robby Rodrick.

Robby, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Though I was born in Los Angeles, I have been traveling most of my life. I have lived in Mexico City, San Antonio, Texas and Chicago, Illinois. My parents finally settled in San Antonio, where I graduated from high school. I was a yearbook photographer and even had a few images published in the local newspaper. I continued as a photographer for Sear Portrait Studios (Chromalloy Industries). First in San Antonio, then Albuquerque, NM and finally in Glendale. After some years there, I ventured on my own and have been shooting portraiture and weddings for more than 25 years, Today I still travel a lot, shooting in San Antonio, Los Angeles & Chicago. But my job has taken me to places like Miami, Atlanta, and other cities. I shoot all type of genres, but as of late, I have been shooting a lot of glamour style work.

Has it been a smooth road?
It is a tough to get jobs as a photographer. Just trying to get hired and gain opportunities, takes much of my time, but I love it and I do not give up easily. I try to improve my shooting and creative skills, as well as my editing techniques because there are many great photographers out there.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and career?
Being at the right place at the right time helps. Constantly keeping your eyes open and listening to customers needs, brings in many fortunate situations, the bad luck is when someone else is hired, but you have to keep on the go.

Do you feel like there are certain traits that increase the likelihood of success?
Outgoing personality and being passionate about what I do. I have been told many times that I show a lot of passion when I am setting up the studio and when I’m shooting.

Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
So many places and cultural areas to shoot. Museums, Hollywood, the beaches, Hollywood Bowl, the Taco Trucks, Chinatown, barrios and so many different Mexican food places. Plus moving making, song making and a lot of models and fashion companies are here. Something always comes up….
