Meet Gita Vasseghi of No Mo-Stache in Echo Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gita Vasseghi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gita. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2013 I was returning from a business trip and made plans to hang out with my best friend Jennifer. At the time, I was working as a fashion executive and she as an esthetician. I remember talking to her about how long the hair on my upper lip grew during the trip and that I didn’t have any time to get it waxed in between the back to back business meetings. I said to her, “I wish someone made a portable waxing kit.” At that moment the light bulb went on, we both looked at each other at the exact same time blurted out: “They should call it NO MO STACHE!!” The rest is history. The following day we applied for our business license. Originally the concept of No Mo-Stache was developed for Jen and I to keep off the streets our bar adventures seemed so boring and this was something positive we could collaborate on together. Not long after, however, we were featured in Real Simple magazine which caught the attention of a buyer at Sephora. With the momentum of Sephora, we took the opportunity of applying to Shark Tank, of the 100k businesses that applied we were selected to pitch and scored a deal with guest shark Bethenny Frankel. Now Jen and I run No Mo-Stache full-time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hell no!! Although it has been an incredibly rewarding experience, it has not come without its fair share of challenges. One of the incredible things this journey has offered is the opportunity to grow and develop as a person. Things that were once debilitatingly challenging I can now do in my sleep. Every day is an opportunity to prove to myself that I have what it takes. Something I always like to remind myself when faced with an obstacle is to be flexible. I have encountered several roadblocks that made it seem like nothing I did to fix it would work. I had to remind myself to take a step back, reevaluate, and approach it from a different angle. The journey has been difficult, but through each obstacle overcome I feel more powerful to handle the next challenge that comes my way. Transformation hurts it is difficult but feels so good when you come through the other side. Focusing on that feeling gets me through any obstacle.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about No Mo-Stache – what should we know?
Although we are the world’s first portable waxing kit, our goal is that our product not only enhances people’s outer beauty but empower them to be the best version of themselves. We build brands that build self-esteem. This desire to empower our customers from the inside out sets us apart. Something as little as lip wax can give you the courage to nail an interview, get that second date or take over the world. Our goal is to make everyone who uses our product the most confident unstoppable force they can be. Above all else, we are in the business of confidence and self-esteem.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
Absolutely!! People ask that a lot. Its two parts, luck, and hard work. You get the luck but what you do with it is what sets you apart. We got lucky with our mention in Real Simple magazine that was organic, we got lucky when Sephora reached out to us. We put in the work when we ejected into the beauty world with no prior background. We did the work to become a great product because saw how amazing of an opportunity this was and to let something like that slip through your hands because you may be entitled or just enamored by the situation is crazy. Every opportunity given to us we take seriously and we put in the work because why the hell not. This is such an amazing opportunity to be a regular person building a brand on a national level. I am honored and grateful for the luck and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get into it. I am a first generation, from a family that immigrated to this country from Iran. This is the American Dream, we live in the land of opportunity and we have what it takes to make opportunity happen.
