Meet Gabriella Lovazzano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella Lovazzano.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gabriella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always expressed myself through my appearance and have been constantly evolving my self through style.

My career path started after cosmetology school. Upon completion, I pursued a career as a hairstylist and freelance make-up artist working in and out of the salon. I loved what I was doing but I found that when on set what really inspired me was the wardrobe stylists. Pursuing my interests, I started to take on more gigs and collaborations as the wardrobe stylist and quickly fell in love. Realizing how much I enjoyed this position, I decided to take a course on it. That was three years ago.

Taking this new path ferociously, I dove right into the profession and did whatever I could to learn the ins and outs of the trade. The first year I spent interning for two celebrity stylists in Los Angeles. Most of my time was dedicated to Zoe Costello, stylist for Migos and Zerina Akers, stylist for Beyonce. These internships were undoubtedly valuable. When I wasn’t interning, I was fine-tuning my skills. Creative directing for my own photoshoots, collaborating with and styling up and coming artists, working on music videos, growing my jewelry line Ejects Collection, and moonlighting as the Fashion Editor for Open Color Magazine. All while still freelancing as a hairstylist!

Progressing in the industry and aligning myself with a like-minded team, I went from an intern to the main assistant working for the style duo XS Studio, whos favorite client of mine is Jhené Aiko. I continue to work for them and am so grateful that we have an awesome working relationship. Your team is so important in this industry!

Prior to COVID 19, my schedule was solid and picking up. XS Studio and I were making moves. Award season was in full swing and I personally had my first client for the red carpet. This moment was a huge landmark in my career. I had a solid momentum going from all the hard work I had been putting out. Even though COVID has put a major wrench in the gears of the industry, I’m not letting it stop me. Currently, I’m at home and staying motivated, working on my personal growth, making art, learning new skills, and planning for the future. I am more eager than ever to get back out there and create some magic!

I’d like to add that none of this could have been possible without the strong support from my family, my relationships, and my fierce passion. Once I realized what I wanted, I released my intentions into the universe and let go of all expectations. This has allowed me to receive and be open to all forms of abundance. That being said, if you’re curious about anything at all, I invite you to take a risk and believe in yourself. Anything is possible when you put your mind and heart into it.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Is the artist’s road ever really smooth? I’ve always stood out, been experimental, colorful, and different all my life. This hasn’t always been seen as an asset. Now it’s what I’m known for and I’m very proud of it. When I was younger and in the infancy of my career, I was worried about facing judgment from others and I struggled with being accepted for my risky looks. It took some time, but once I realized and accepted how powerful and gifted I am, I stopped caring about what others think.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am multifaceted!! Like a diamond. Fashion Stylist, Jewelry Designer, Creative Director, Project Manager, Fashion Editor, and Cosmetologist. I also practice photography, photoshop, and dabble in managing and curating events. Honestly, I could keep adding to this list. I’m finally at a stage where I love to learn and am constantly taking online classes to enhance my skills.

I’m known for having a colorful and bold personal style. I will never be caught wearing the same exact thing twice! I’m always changing my hair color, I’m no stranger to bleached brows, undercuts, piercings, and tattoos. I’ve always loved collecting vintage clothes, accessories, and furniture. I love to mix relics from the past with future fashion, constantly refining my style and creating different personas with each look. I consider my collections to be treasures and I find them anywhere from flea markets, middle of nowhere vintage shops, department stores, boutiques, online, and pop up parties like my own Hella Good’s Pop Up where I brought local designers together to sell their goods in a nightlife party setting. Shopping while sipping and socializing was a way for people to meet the designers behind the goods. I love knowing who I am supporting and it makes the pieces even more meaningful than buying something that was made in mass. Supporting independent designers is really important to me. When purchasing new pieces, I prefer them to be made in limited runs and by like-minded creatives. Since I have my own jewelry line, I want to see other businesses like mine thrive. Of course, I also love high-end designer wears, it’s amazing to see what kind of creativity and collections come out of having a large team working for a world-recognized house name.

As for my career, I don’t believe I have to pigeonhole myself and choose one path. I am interested in so many different mediums of art and want to continue to learn, grow, and explore what interests me.

As a fashion stylist, I specialize in performance looks and celebrity styling. My portfolio is bold and colorful like me.

You can find most of my work on my site https://www.gabriellalovazzano.com or my https://www.instagram.com/gabriellajlovazzano/. I strive to dress artists who have the power to influence their listeners like I was influenced. My cosmetology skills are really useful when conceptualizing the looks from head to toe and help when communicating my vision.

As a designer, I am a co-owner of a jewelry line called EJECTS Collection. Check it out here https://www.ejectscollection.com. EJECTS takes outdated media tech and gives it new life by enhancing the media and making it wearable. We officially went into business two years ago but have been creating the line for the past five years. My business partner and I design each unisex piece together and have been hand-making them with the help of a laser cutter. We currently have some designs in the works and are planning to take the brand to the next level. It is really exciting to be working on some new-new and I can’t wait to announce what’s in the works!

Another awesome hustle of mine is curating for Open Color Magazine. Open color is an arts publication that bridges the gap between emerging and established artists. I have been working passionately as the Fashion Editor for this publication for the past two years. We are a very small team and are totally self-funded. We pride ourselves on having no advertisements in the mag. We have featured some amazingly talented and inspiring artists. Check out our latest issue https://www.weareopencolor.com.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
I developed my style in San Fransisco. I will always be a Bay Area bae! I learned so much there, made a ton of great friends, and had a ton of amazing experiences. Those years really helped shape the person I am today. And my community there really helped nurture my creative growth. As I got more serious about my career, I knew I needed to live somewhere that was more connected to my needs. That is why I decided to move to LA. Moving here has really helped me accomplish my goals. Production goes off in LA and if you’re a hard worker, dedicated and reliable you can find work in the industry of your choosing.
