Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Turney.
Gabriela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always knew I was a detail oriented person. Since I was a child, I had the goal to run my own small business, Heck! That’s all I knew growing up. When I was thirteen I started a dog walking and pet sitting business and immediately knew entrepreneurship was my calling. The only problem was in what specifically. During college, I heard about the opportunity to receive a certificate in Wedding Planning and contemplated the thought, but it wasn’t until I had graduated that I jumped on the opportunity to complete the course. This was 3 years ago. Between then and now, I have received my Master’s degree, raised two mischievous puppies, worked as a venue coordinator, and planned my own wedding. It wasn’t until this past January that I decided to move forward with my postponed goal and take the leap of starting my own business as a wedding planner and floral designer. Even though I currently work full-time in addition to my business, I have truly found my passion. I have been blessed with working with amazing couples within these first 7 months and can’t wait for my future experiences.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road since every day is a learning experience, especially when starting out. When I first started in February, I undervalued myself by offering my services at unbeatable rates which left me with no profit and complete exhaustion. The pro to this, however, is now I have a portfolio, but I do not recommend this to any creative out there. I did not hone in on my ideal client and my ultimate goal, but now with knowing this information I am able to build a bigger and stronger brand behind Bridezilla Events. I have not gone through this process alone. I have thankfully had the wonderful support of my husband and a network of wedding creatives to boost me up when times get rough. Being an entrepreneur is no joke. I must thank the Rising Tide Society for opening so many doors and connections for me and my business. These relationships are invaluable and have led to meaningful friendships.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bridezilla Events story. Tell us more about the business.
Bridezilla Events is a boutique wedding planning & floral design company that caters intimate weddings and affairs of 100 guests or less. We believe that a smaller guest count allows for more creativity in the guest experience and focus on the details. We want to create an epic event that illustrates your authenticity and unique couple style. Who wants something generic? Through our process, we will get close, like really close so I can ensure that your wedding day is a reflection of your relationship. Ultimately, your wedding day is the opportunity to give your guests a little insight into your relationship and the love that you have for one another. Don’t be fooled by our name; this is a Bridezilla-free zone. At Bridezilla Events, we believe in “extinct” attitude to keep far far away from the true meaning of Bridezilla. We love to work with the organized couple, but we are also here to guide you through the planning process, finalize your details, and decrease the level of stress you may be experiencing. Through all the planning craziness, we still believe in having fun and lots of it. Since we are a boutique company, we are selective in making sure our client is a good fit for the Bridezilla Events family. Our boutique brings tranquility to your wedding planning and day-of events. There is no need for a “Bridezilla” here!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
To be honest, I don’t believe in luck. I believe that your work ethic and the amount of investment put into the project will ultimately reveal your success. I have spent many hours of research to create the backend of my business, the client experience, execution of my events. This couldn’t be done with luck.
