Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Lusita.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For many years, it’s been my dream to help every woman feel good in her body and in her clothes. Here’s why.
As an active, curvy and petite person, buying athletic clothing was a nightmare. Low waistbands maximized my muffin top (who doesn’t love that?) Long pant legs bunched around my knees or caught on my sneakers. Every top made me look like either Betty Boop or Pope Francis. Come on. Was everything designed to fit only tall supermodels? I was exhausted emotionally and financially trying to find the right clothes. So I created my own! I wanted an all-inclusive athleisure wear that fit and flattered everywoman–every curve, every inch (or lack thereof).
And… I wanted my clothes to be fun! I’m an ‘80s chick. Off-the-shoulder tees, bodysuits cut up to there, retro-modern–that’s my jam. The What a Feeling line keeps that Cyndi Lauper spirit and Flashdance sexiness while offering clean and classic style–just enough to celebrate that era we love while keeping it 21st-century chic! Super soft fabrics and modern lines blend with bright pops of color to make every woman want to strut. This collection is filled with mix-and-match pieces that you can wear and love for years to come and you can customize your leggings to fit your body-
What a Feeling Athletic Wear is designed not only to look and feel good but to do good. A portion of every sale will go to one of your favorite charities! As a female entrepreneur at heart from the early age of 8, these last few years I’ve taken a total leap of faith and stretched myself farther and wider than I ever imagined. In addition to launching a clothing line that was self-funded, I just wrote my first book which was released 3 months ago, The Right Fit Formula by Skyhorse Publishing.
It was featured on Good Morning America, FOX, CBS and KTLA. This was a dream come true and many years in the making. It’s a personality-driven lifestyle book that guides you on how to use your personality and authenticity to direct your food, fitness and lifestyle choices. I am so proud that it’s 100% all about you and not another diet fad. It’s also the first book of its kind! Growing up in a small town in Connecticut I had big dreams but no official business acumen to execute them.
At the age of 23, my husband and I (also my grade school sweetheart) moved to Santa Monica. We came here with 3,000 and 3 days to find a place before our belongings arrived. We worked our way up one brick at a time. I went back to school at 29 and have spent the last 15 years crafting my skills. My vision never wavered. Now as a business owner and TV Expert with a social responsibility and as a woman with a steadfast passion to help every individual live their truth, I realize that through all the obstacles, I’ve found resiliency and I believe this is the one characteristic you’ll need to find success in any direction you aim for.
I’ve done everything unconventional my whole life from early on —whether it was the way I made my entire softball team cringe from the off-kilter way I catch the ball to carving my career path in television; I’ve never been deterred by how hard things can be or the amount of effort it takes to accomplish big dreams. I’m an optimistic woman at heart. What I have realized over the years is that I have enough resiliency, determination and passion to make up for what I lack in skill.
But these days I only direct my efforts towards what feels good. Because if it doesn’t feel good, it really doesn’t matter. And this simple philosophy is how I have inspired my clients over the years from the clothes they wear to the foods they eat to the workouts they do and the choices they make. I measure all criteria based on this one factor does it feel good? When the answer is yes, there lies your motivation and insight to find a way to make it work whatever hoping to achieve.
That’s the inspiration behind my what a feeling brand! Everyone has a theme song and what a feeling by Irene Cara is definitely mine!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not a smooth road. Getting people to take me seriously being I didn’t graduate from Harvard or Stanford and I didn’t have any loyal relationships to people as I grew up in a different part of the country. I was not an official apparel designer or writer. Two major projects I took on without real mentorship. Day in and out I had to figure things out as I went. I made a ton of mistakes along the way but I realized I have grit and determination and that is what comforts me at the end of a hard day.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with What a Feeling Athletic Wear – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What a Feeling Athletic Wear is an 80’s inspired fitness athletic line and a lifestyle brand that customizes clothing to fit any body size. There aren’t any existing companies that allow you to customize your own clothing to your size. We are also an apparel line that gives back. This is so important to me.
Also honoring who is purchasing it. I give our customers several choices of charities to choose from at checkout so they can pick a cause that is important and meaningful to them.
