Today we’d like to introduce you to Farida Amar.
Farida, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was raised in the middle of nowhere and now I live and work everywhere. I have built a rich inner life that balances on a thin line between waking and dream realities. I ask myself, “what is an idea?” What shape and form must this idea occupy? What is its mass and weight? How can it become tangible? I collaborate with large teams of visionaries to imagine the most adventurous possibilities and translate them into shared public experiences. Collective consciousness is how we will save the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Trusting others is the greatest challenge of any creative professional. People are imperfect and will often disappoint you, but without them your work cannot be relevant or effective. No matter how many times people hurt you, you must continue to respond with love. Otherwise, what’s the point? I am not interested in producing selfish ideas.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I primarily work in branding, publishing and installation design. But, I believe I am best known for my work in establishing creative platforms and leading art collectives. Most artists who work with me would tell you I am a stickler for deadlines; I always finish what I start. I hate excuses and enjoy overcoming obstacles and creative blocks.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I rescued a wild blackbird who fell out of her nest. I named her Jeannine and when I tried to release her, she wouldn’t leave. That bird followed me everywhere. When I would walk down the street, she would fly next to me. I loved how wild and free she was and that spending her life with me was her choice.
