Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Wright.
Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My start in the industry came with humble beginnings. I moved to LA nearly 6 years ago, and it was truly the best decision for me to be able to grow confidence and experience within my career. I own and operate a bridal hair and makeup business called “Emily Lynn & Co.” Myself and my team provide hair and makeup for weddings, elopements, red carpet events, and shoots all over Los Angeles and Southern California! The jobs have evolved from working on film sets to brand campaigns, to working with brides! I definitely have needed those years of experience to find my niche in the industry and thanks to our current wedding boom and such a speed of growth after covid, I am thrilled to work alongside over 25 freelance artists on my bridal team!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always many struggles with owning a small business… the global pandemic being one at the forefront of my mind. As you would have probably assumed, the wedding industry made a huge halt at the beginning of covid. Being a hair and makeup artist and having a job where I’m so physically close to my clients posed many challenges. There were new health and safety practices that I implemented and I was challenged with thoughts of: “when will we ever be in a place to get back to celebrating weddings?”. Elopements were a safer way to help our couples celebrate, and I have to say – they were beautiful! The intimacy and sweetest of elopements were the magic and light in the midst of the ongoing years of the pandemic. I was honored to be able to help my brides into their dresses and able to be present for moments their families were not even able to be a part of.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My team and I specialize in bridal hair and makeup that’s natural, glowing, and effortlessly you! I never want my clients to feel overdone and want them to see themselves in the mirror. This is definitely our niche and specialty in the market! We are based in LA but work weddings and events from Santa Barbara to Palm Springs, to Catalina Island, and Big Sur. It’s such a fun and rewarding career for myself and all of the artists on our team!!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Authenticity is more important to me that “networking”. I love meeting new people! But I feel that the best working relationships come from a place of genuine intentions.
