Meet Dr. Apollo of Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Hiller.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After my debut at Electric Daisy Carnival in 2012 as one of the first winners of the Insomniac Events Discovery Project, I spent the next six years developing my production and DJ skills as Olymp.us. Performing at venues and festivals all over in Los Angeles, Miami, Vegas, Paris, London, Rome, Ibiza, etc.

Being a classically trained musician and having guidance from mentors like AR Rahman, Quincy Jones, and Drumma Boy, it has allowed me to develop mixing and production techniques that have never been done before based on the “Acusonic Recording Process” and the Fibonacci Sequence. In early 2018 I joined forces with U.S. DnB legend MC Dino to form Follow The Sun. Our releases have been met with features by Billboard, Spotify and have gotten airplay on Pasquale Rotella’s Night Owl Radio, the Rene la Vice BBC1 Radio Show and Ibiza Live Radio/Ibiza White 103.7 FM.

In January of 2019, I began work on the Dr. Apollo project which took a life of its own after my first release (“Red” with Dip Vertigo) on the legendary Hospital Records on their annual “Sick Music” compilation. I then started collaborating with another DnB icon “Reid Speed” on tracks like “Electrotherapy feat. Evil Dom” and “Gaia” as well as my debut EP “Antivirus” on Play Me Records. This led to Billie Eilish giving Dip Vertigo an I the official DnB remix of her #1 hit single “Bad Guy” which released on Bassrush.

With support from artists like Noisia, Matrix & Futurebound, Rene la Vice, Evol Intent, London Electricity, Drumsound & Bassline Smith and others who inspired me to start producing in the first place. I began immersing myself more and more into the Drum n Bass culture here in LA. This allowed me to really understand how rich and diverse the Junglist movement is. I believe Drum n Bass is one of the only real underground scenes left in LA that hasn’t strayed from its roots. It has and always will be about ripping bass, soulful rhythms, and an appreciation for what has come before. The foundation created by originators like Pasquale, Forrest, Machete, MC QuestionMark, 6Blocc (R.A.W), Nightstalker, Reid Speed, MC Dino, Dip Vertigo, and countless others, is going to carry the next generation of bass music fans into the future of sound design and music creation.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth? No. Interesting, Bizarre, and Unbelievable? Yes.

But I wouldn’t want to change anything about it. All the struggles in my life are there to inspire myself to capture a moment in time that can never be replicated.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a producer, my most important objective is to push myself to the very limit of my creative ability. I truly know now that no bit of REAL success comes from following trends or being scared to be a little earlier than the majority of people. Before I was a producer, I mainly played drums and that brought me to the knowledge I know now as “The Ethics of Jazz”. One of my main goals is to be an ambassador for those principles as well as “decategorizing” the music industry.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe everything happens for a reason. Hard work is maybe the only thing that can create the illusion of luck around you.
