Hi Diana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started with my business during the covid-19 pandemic. During that time, I was struggling with unemployment due to being laid off from the company I was working with. As a result, to that, my mental health was compromised, and I was not in the best state of mind. I was having a hard time coping with my anxiety and depression. At that point, my self-care became more important than ever before, and I had found strength in practicing yoga, meditation, and crafting. I found so much joy and fulfillment being able to create new cricut projects and express myself using color with my tie-dye projects. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and creating this brand when I did, during the time I did, was the best move I have ever made to ultimately allow myself to continue creating a life that I can live on my own terms. Since I could remember, I have always had an entrepreneur spirit at heart, and being a fashion designer was always at the top of my list, so being a creator today is as fulfilling as it gets for me. Where I am today with my business is exactly where I am supposed to be. It’s not a race for me; I am enjoying every bit of my growth and appreciating all the moments. The name of my business Relax + Restore Loungewear, was inspired by my own personal struggles with mental health in efforts to continue to raise awareness for those who battle with it as well. The meaning behind my brand is to relax and restore yourself from anything and everything, even if it’s not mental health related. I look forward to continuing to create new projects that others will love and enjoy. Overall, I’m appreciating all the great things currently happening for my brand and welcoming what God wants for the future. My brand is always evolving, and I love how I can show that as time goes by and bring those supporting me along for the ride and journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think that anyone looking in from the outside at any business owner, including myself will think that the process is easy because no one is necessarily posting their failures, only successes. While I love to see a thriving business owner, it’s refreshing to see relatable posts on social media showing the struggles that we are faced to overcome. The truth is that being a business owner is far from easy. The journey of starting a business and the entire creation of it is not a straight line. For sure, it is a very bumpy road but very rewarding. I speak all of this in relation to my business as well, and I can definitely say there have been some struggles like inconsistency with sales and social media engagement. Those moments did bring a lot of discouragement and imposter syndrome. But the truth is that everyone goes through those stages in their business. The best advice I could give another business owner is to be patient and trust the process. Today, I can feel proud of myself with how my business has helped me mature in many areas where I once lacked patience and understanding. I look at all my hard work today and I am pleased with the flow of my sales and the amount of support I receive. The importance of how the entire process of this journey to achieve all of my small wins at the cost of losses has been eye-opening. These experiences were necessary to mold me into the creator I am today. Here I am; still, every day learning and growing with my brand by the second, and I love it.

As previously mentioned, the name of my business Relax + Restore Loungewear was inspired by my own personal struggles with mental health in efforts to continue to raise awareness for those who battle with it as well. It means exactly that, to relax and restore yourself from anything and everything, even if it’s not mental health related. Relax + Restore Loungewear is more than just a clothing brand to me. It means more than just cricut design projects and tie-dye loungewear. I express myself through that outlet of creativity because that is that positive side of the brand. Creating new possibilities and adding color to your life in place of a dark moment that you may be battling through. I feel that the real meaning of this brand sometimes gets lost in translation with the creations that I introduce to my audience. But one of my goals going into 2023 is to continue being open about my personal struggles with mental health on social media through my Instagram page to give others the chance to be vulnerable and share their experiences as well or struggles. I feel that my social media page is a safe place for that, and I am looking forward to those types of conversations to continue raising awareness. On my Instagram platform, I also love to discuss topics about faith, offer daily motivational inspiration and self-care tips. Through my Instagram stories, I have also expressed my desire to donate and I have already made contributions to three organizations that support mental health, homelessness, and animal cruelty just last year. But, I have yet to announce this year the new organizations I have chosen to donate to, so I’m excited to share that soon. I just want to continue creating and sharing my projects with the world as well as continuing to remind existing supporters, along with new ones, what Relax + Restore Loungewear stands for and expressing the want to make a difference in the lives of others through our donations. I’m praying for wisdom from God to help me move my brand to the next level in hopes of making the meaning of this brand clearer to others along with our intentions and welcoming others to join the cause and help us reach our goals and help others in the process.
