Meet Darius MF Reed of DMFR in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius MF Reed.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Darius MF. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m Darius, and I’ve been entrenched in the arts for as long as I can remember. I first fell in love with writing in kindergarten. It’s this same year I was invited to my first Young Authors Conference at the university of Montevallo back home in Alabama. It was a really special thing. The participants were not only expected to write the story, but also illustrate and make the covers and binding for it as well. It was in this blip that I learned I was mad decent at drawing as well. Some years pass, and I’m still writing poetry and whatnot, but I really begin to take notice of my grandfather Walter’s guitar playing. The raw emotion he was able to convey through an inanimate object amazed me. It was also something I had never appreciated til that moment in fifth grade. Middle school draweth nigh, and I decide I wanted to be in band. I choose the trombone, and ran with it. (I still play!) Around the age of 14, I discovered Kanye West and wanted to be just like him. So my parents, Barney and Shelia did what any supportive parental units would do; They took me to the pawnshop and bought me my first beat machines and turntables! Learning to produce and DJ led me down a weird, but really cool path. It’s been super fun incorporating tech and music. I produce house music under the moniker DMFR and rap beats as Ma$on Dixon. Around the same time, I started dabbling with photography and video, which leads me to where I am now. I was always super impressed with how lighting, lens choice, and camera movement dictated the mood of a scene and jumped right into learning all I could! I now shoot for many well-known internet influencers and DP as well!

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been rough being so far away from almost all the people I love so dearly, but this is how it has to be! You don’t get diamonds without the pressure!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with DMFR – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
So, I’m a writer and camera op. I think the thing that sets me apart the most is the fact that I can do just about every aspect of a project. From writing, storyboarding, shooting, to post.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Everything here can at times feel a bit impersonal. This is coming from an individual that loves forging new relationships! I love the fact that this is the epicenter for everything creative. It’s wonderful. This terrain is beautiful as well!
