Today we’d like to introduce you to Dany Srey-Snow.
Hi Dany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a multifaceted being. I’m a yoni reiki healer, (womb)xn’s mentor, boudoir photographer, yoga instructor, and artist. Most importantly, I’m a mom, wife, spirit-soul, and a manifestation of my ancestors.
My ancestors paved the way for me to get where I am today. I come from a long line of resiliency and strength. I am a Khmer-American and my ancestry comes from Cambodian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai descent. Seattle born and bred, I moved to LBC in 2019. Interestingly enough, Long Beach, CA is home to Cambodia Town. It’s been a full-circle moment for me, as I’ve been able to reconnect with my roots and my Self.
With Divine intervention, I’ve met community leaders, artists, and healers. These great humans played a big part in me coming home to my Self. Tapping into my spirituality and expanding my creativity has led me to become more ritualistic and intentional.
I’ve come to realize my dharma (Sanskrit word for purpose) which is to guide WOC to heal and feel divinely connected to their feminine essence, sensuality, and ancestry. These have been things that I’ve lacked growing up. Experiencing sexual trauma and domestic violence at a young age made me disassociate from my body. Now, I do all that I can to listen to my intuition and all the signs my body gives me. What I found shame in was tied to what my purpose was going to be. And to know that, was liberating for me. It’s all a part of my healing process.
In this lifetime, I’m showing up and embodying the energy of a contemporary sensual bodhisattva. A bodhisattva is a person who is on the path to buddhahood but stays on earth out of compassion in order to save suffering beings. I tap into spirit while still being grounded in my human experience. I embody all parts of me.
For the past few years, I’ve had the pleasure to hold sacred space in ceremony for wombxn to feel to heal, awaken their feminine energy, and embody their wholesome selves. Whether it’s boudoir photography, yoni steaming, reiki, yoga+dance, or mentoring; it all stems from my dharma– to guide WOC to heal and feel divinely connected.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe we all come into this world with a soul contract and we play out our own karma, whether from our ancestors, past lives or in this lifetime. With that being said, it hasn’t been a smooth road and I’ve struggled with a few dark nights of the soul. Every time something drastic would happen, I would find my Self in prayer. I would hear my Self praying in English, Khmer, and light language.
I’ve always felt connected to something bigger and beyond my Self. But growing up, I felt a lack of connection to me. So, this journey of mine is about integrating Source with Self. How do I become embodied- in my truth, my knowing, my ME? I’m awakening the Divine within me so that I can fully embody my wholesome Self. It’s a process to integrate all parts of me, the light and the dark.
My healing started with understanding energy, connecting to the breath, finding safety in my body, and storytelling.
I had a calling to reiki, a Japanese light tough healing modality. This allowed me to understand all things energy. Life Force Energy flows through me, you, and everything around us. It helps clear the subtle body, move energy, and relaxation.
Connecting to my breath was learning about my lifeline. I noticed that when my breath was shallow, I would have to gasp for air at times. This was me living in fear, still living in fight of flight. Now, I consciously breathe down into my womb space and it anchors me into the moment.
Finding safety in my own body was something I had to gradually ease into, as I am still doing now. As a young girl, the world taught me to believe that my body wasn’t mine– it was taken or abused or belonged to the capitalist world. Then one day, I gave my Self permission to reclaim her, my body. I gave myself permission to feel. I gave my Self permission to experience. I gave my Self permission to be sensual and have pleasure on my terms. It was safe to do all the things because my body became my first altar and I consented.
Storytelling came after I experienced embodiment. To know what it feels like to drop into my own energy, the breath, and my body allowed me to use my voice. My voice had its own vibration of healing. My voice would speak words of my experience to those who were open to listen and hear. My voice would share stories of suppression, heartbreak, and being a WOC. Now, I also share stories of healing, joy, and abundance.
This was just the beginning of my healing, as healing is not linear. I was in a place to uncover my shadows and face some unresolved trauma, which then allowed me to transmute the pain into power and peace. Storytelling of what I had shame around turned into sacred ceremonies for wombxn to do the same. I’ve continued to create sacred containers for connection, support, and healing.
The body keeps the score. All of this led me to become a yoni reiki healer, wombxn’s mentor, boudoir photographer, yoga instructor, and artist. I’ve been able to witness the body more than what she’s experienced but to see her as art. The body is an altar, a canvas to be embodied and expressed. My work of boudoir photography has allowed me experience sexual healing. It’s created safe containers for vulnerability and radical self-acceptance. Boudoir photography is liberation for our Selves within our bodies.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tori Dany Co. | Friends of Rose?
What I do and feel is spirit-led. I stay open for those who are aligned with my dharma and want deep healing and want to feel divinely connected to find me. I call in wombxn of color who need extra support on their healing journey.
My work is multidimensional, with healing on all levels. Tori Dany Co. is my platform for healing. It’s rooted with ancestral rituals and practices, yogic and Khmer. I facilitate yoni steams, reiki, and movement – yoga + dance. All of this through wombxn’s circles, 1:1 or small group ceremonies and/or mentoring.
My most sacred offering is through my sister business, Friends of Rose. FOR is a sacred space for sexual healing through boudoir photography. Boudoir (French for bedroom) photography is a form of fine art photography that captures the body. With my innovative healing approach, I’ve turned this photo session into a healing ceremony, with reiki in the beginning to drop you into your parasympathetic state before becoming fully embodied in all that you are.
What’s different about my photography experience than the others?
Energy. The space is safe. The energy is carefully intended for you to open up to be vulnerable, and awaken your Divinity so that you can embody your fully expressed Self.
I pray for our time together before you even step into my studio. I’m here to witness you and showcase that you are art & the artist, you always were and will be.
Every client that works with me receives The Black Book; a boudoir album of their favorite images captured from the photography ceremony. This keepsake item allows you to drop back into this energy whenever you need a reminder of your power and peace.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The wellness world and sacred sexuality space will shift in a big way. It will become more accessible to people as we all start to prioritize our healing and embody our whole Selves.
I’m excited to help pioneer this as we move forward. It’s important for me to focus on my dharma as things shift. We can all innovate and move with the times and trends, but my intention will be what anchors me.
As people start to awaken to their own power, we will see shifts on how we all want to move through life. There will be more compassion for others as we focus on self-healing.
We all will turn to those who came before us, our ancestors and the indigenous people. We will return back to the earth. Our society will return back to the matriarch as we dismantle patriarchy, colonization, and white supremacy.
There will be more safe spaces to heal and express. There will be more guides, healers, artists to create these containers; I am happy to serve as one of them.
The mind, body, and soul will be the focus for all of us.
