Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Cano.
Hi Danny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Los Angeles based writer, actor, director, podcaster and musician who has established himself as one of the hottest up and coming talents directing, writing, and starring in various Independent projects and short films, whose short “Duality” was featured in the 2019 lift off sessions. I am also the host and creator of the popular “Indestructible Podcast” interviewing various guests from all walks. I recently starred as the lead in “It happened one day in east LA” a new short film streaming on Amazon Prime. In 2018, I released my first demo ep the “Youngblood EP” a punk tinged EP that is streaming on all platforms.
However, I have teamed up with famed producer Hauk Heimdallsman to produce five new singles which will be recorded professionally that showcase a new side of me musically, that is being chronicled on an online web series called “The making of the indestructible 5” where I show the creative process of writing and rewriting the songs, in a funny entertaining manner. The series airs on my Instagram @mr.dannycano and YouTube: Danny Cano. I am also currently preparing to begin production directing and starring in my first independent feature film.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t always a smooth road but I think what always helped me was I always have a good mindset in terms of everything I do. I always pursue my artistic endeavors with the hopes of entertaining people, creating the art that I feel in my heart, and staying true to myself. If I can do that, I feel that I have succeeded. Of course, being an independent artist is difficult being completely self-sufficient. I am an incredibly hard worker and love talking and making connections but I do oftentimes wish I had a manager to handle some of the business aspects of being an up and coming artist while I focus more on my art. However, I feel that those struggles make me appreciate it more and help me understand all aspects of the music and film industry. Being a young artist at 23 years old, I feel I have made great strides in my career so far but I have huge ambitions for things I want to do. However, if you are a manager with significant connections feel free to contact me haha.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a writer, actor, director, podcaster, and musician. I specialize in my unique brand of entertainment which always has a slight comedic tinge. I am known as the host of the popular “Indestructible Podcast” I am most proud of my work as the lead actor and associate producer on “It happened one day in east la” the new short film from the fantastic director Victor Aguilar. At 22 years old, I got to star in my first leading role on camera which meant the world to me in that it was written and directed by a Hispanic director. I feel a deep connection with helping establish Hispanic characters and stories on screen as I am Hispanic myself. What sets me apart from others is my upbringing growing up as a young Hispanic kid in downtown Los Angeles, though I grew up in a middle-class family no one in my family was artistically inclined as such I found the arts on my own. As such, I always pursue my art from the outsider perspective in the hopes of giving a kid who felt like I did as a kid an artistic person who didn’t necessarily have alot of outlets with which to express themselves.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way it, no one is going to give you the golden ticket to success you need to be willing to put as much work in marketing yourself and making connections as you do to your art. Some of my greatest accomplishments have simply occurred from me calling someone or sending an email. Do you always succeed at every connection no, however the odds of you succeeding is far greater if you’re personally willing to do the leg work.
