Meet Daniel Rice of Daniel Rice Fitness in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Rice.

Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been fascinated with fitness and physical activities. Sports have been a part of my life since I was very young; I competed in gymnastics, martial arts, wrestling, physique bodybuilding, and Olympic lifting. Even as a competitive athlete I was diagnosed with hypertension at the age of 19. I knew heart disease ran in my family but I didn’t know that someone as active as I was, was at risk. I learned exercising alone wasn’t enough to keep my genetic disposition at bay. I was put on medication to manage my hypertension shortly after my diagnosis and at the moment I knew I needed a better understanding of how the human body worked.

After doing some research, I quickly understood it had to do a lot with nutrition and so I enrolled in a nutrition program. I learned about the nuance of different foods, even healthy ones, and how they affect different functions in the body. I started to make modifications to my diet and my hypertension began to subside, within a few months and I was taken off the medication. It was a pivotal moment for me, it was then that I knew I wanted to take what I learned and help others.

I enrolled in a personal training program where I earned my training certification but before I started working with clients I knew I wanted an even greater understanding of the human body. Shortly after finishing my personal training program I decided to enroll in a massage therapy licensing program. It was in that intensive training where I discovered the powerful healing capacity of the human body when given the right input (which includes nutrition, movement and mindful living) the body is capable of extraordinary things.

I graduated with a new found purpose and passion for working with the body in a holistic way. My education, training and personal experience became the foundation for how I developed my training style and technique. The goal of the program is simple; eliminate pain, manage stress and create an over sense of wellbeing through movement, well-balanced nutrition and a daily mindful practice. It has been an honor and blessing to support my clients in this way since 2013.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There will always be challenges in our journey. That is the beauty of growth. Each challenge we face, we learn and become stronger. For me, the biggest challenge is my jealousy. What I have learned is to turn my jealousy into a motivator. I have become stronger because of my jealousy.

Please tell us about Daniel Rice Fitness.
My business is all about fitness and health. It’s a large spectrum, but I try to dial down into the mind and body with mindfulness training, nutrition and physical training.

I’ve known for my spiritual personality and my abilities to enlighten my clients daily with mindfulness practices and physical training techniques.

In my five years of business, I’m mostly proud of helping people from all over the world. They open they’re home, family and health to me. It’s the greatest reward to watch someone go from crawling to sprinting!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be camping up North with my family. Being all present together outdoors under the stars next to a bonfire. There’s nothing better!
