Meet Cory Aycock of Cory Aycock Photography in NoHo Arts District, North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Aycock.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to LA from Texas for acting, then eventually bought a DSLR camera to start making my own shorts and writing my own material. I then decided to also experiment taking Headshots for actors. I did a lot of research online regarding lighting and equipment and also drew from my experience in front of the camera, having worked with many talented photographers and cinematographers.

When I first started shooting, I offered “shots-for-trades” to various actors and models through casting notices until I had built a portfolio and was comfortable shooting with clients for pay.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it has been a great experience! If I had to name a particular struggle, I would say it is the fact there are so many photographers in LA, and even if your work is great and your prices reasonable, it’s difficult to get eyes on your website sometimes without spending an arm and a leg on advertising.

Cory Aycock Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in Headshot Photography which started just being for actors but has also included models, business professionals, etc. Something I excel at is connecting with whoever I’m shooting with, and if they are nervous, I am able to empathize and we’ll work through it during shooting. I feel I am good at making people feel comfortable and have a genuine concern and general curiosity regarding everyone I shoot with.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m not sure if I’ve had one singular “proudest moment”. No photo “seshs” with a celeb as the proudest moment (haha), but I’ve had a few people tell me that the pictures I took of them were their favorite photos they’ve ever had taken, which is really flattering. I’ve also had a few Yelp reviews that were extremely kind and detailed, which is very humbling that someone took the time to write about their experience shooting with me.
