Today we’d like to introduce you to CORii.
CORii, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started taking singing seriously when I was in high school. Obviously before that, I had done talent shows, some musical theater shows, and vocal lessons. By the time I hit high school, I really started taking pop music seriously. I was writing the corniest love songs about my high school boyfriend and listening to all the drama going on with my girlfriends, I got into Berklee College of Music and headed to Boston in the fall of 2009. I had made so many connections at Berklee and met the most talented people ever. After college, I moved home to the Jersey/Philadelphia area and was working at a dueling piano bar Howl at the Moon. I worked there for about 2 1/2 years and saved up money for my move to Los Angeles.
I was living in LA for three years putting myself in sessions and networking even more. I was performing at venues like hotel cafe and just hustling three jobs to stay afloat. I had to move home with my husband in 2018 for his residency. While home, I kept flying back to LA to write more, put myself in sessions, try to get my stuff on tv/film, and just perform. I have gotten some of my originals in shows like Love Island and The Good Trouble. This past year I also got on the show Songland which was hands down the best experience of my life. It’s like all that hard work had paid off for that moment of getting on national tv.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can’t say that most roads are smooth. There are always going to be hurdles, bumps, and potholes. I think the biggest struggle for me was having to work a thousand jobs while trying to balance being an artist. I couldn’t just focus on that because I had to focus on affording my regular life on top of the priciness of being an artist.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am an artist/songwriter who has been busting my booty to develop my craft as best as I can. I have been doing that since I was a little girl. There was and has been nothing more than fulfills me like music. I specialize in performing and singing my heart out and connecting to others. I am just really proud of all I have done and overcome to be the best artist I can be for my fans and myself.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband, Mom, Dad, two sisters, and my friends. They have been supporting me, helping financially, sharing my music, rooting me on at shows, flying out to see me, and just praise me to make me feel so special. They have never doubted me and always knew this is what I was born to do.
