Today we’d like to introduce you to Coreen Peralta.
Coreen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my chef journey 20 plus years ago. This chosen path has kept me creative and constantly learning.
As a self-taught chef, it has not always been easy, but when you’re committed to doing what you love, you will find your way. I feel people can taste when you cook from your heart and soul. Life is too short to eat food that doesn’t come from a place of love and respect from the chef to the ingredients.
My true zen moments always come forward when working with food. The greatest way I can express myself is by truly doing what I love. Not being afraid to make mistakes has been one of my biggest accomplishments in the kitchen and the biggest stepping stone as a personal chef.
Food for me is the universal language that brings people together. I’m so lucky and thankful that my craft allows me to do that. Watching the smiles on faces after a small bite of one of my creations is priceless. I hope I can stay blessed with my craft for years to come and encourage while inspiring others to follow their dreams as none are ever too big.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a self-taught chef, there was always some self-doubt as to if I would ever be good enough or strong enough for this industry. With no formal training, I spent a lot of time reading cookbooks, taking small cooking classes and thankfully working close with other trained chefs who were able to teach me a few basics… Through the years I’ve made mistakes, lost money but in the end, was able to build something from nothing all from my passion within.
Culinary Consortium – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
A personal chef service/caterer dedicated in bringing people together through beautiful food. Some of my specialties include paella, small bites and a collection of our beautiful charcuterie and crudite boards.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by personal happiness. Do what makes you happy, and the rest will follow.
