Meet Cindy Chau of Wellness Vybz in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Chau.

Cindy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It is innate within me to feel deeply. I realized that feeling strongly about issues don’t mean anything unless there’s action. I took my passion and curiosity for mental health and human behavior to grad school to become a licensed psychotherapist. From there, the journey has led to private practice, becoming a business owner of crisis support services at festivals and tuning into my gift of channeling spirit world.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey towards private practice with my psychotherapy background was fairly smooth. I started in community state-funded agencies, to a group practice and then individual. I was fortunate enough to align with those who wanted to see me grow as a practitioner and was offered guidance and support along the way.

The road towards building the festival crisis support service proved more challenging. Up to this point, most of the mental health-related services at special events were peer support and harm reduction. Wellness Vybz on the other hand, overtly proposed risk assessment and care towards the typically unreported (sexual assaults, drug dosing, abuse, etc). This more hands-on approach to mental health care at festivals has been met with resistance and confusion by organizers, however positively received by festival-goers.

The road towards being an intuitive channel has proved challenging as well, as it involves a constant unlearning and relearning to align with higher truths. Being a channel between the spirit world and the human world has held me more accountable for my own inner healing work, to best serve others on their highest journeys. I did not intentionally seek to be a channel for spirit but was organically opened to it through some transformative life events.

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
Wellness Vybz helps people align to their truth. Through the services offered, people are able to identify personal blind spots, uncover opportunities otherwise overlooked, move from fear-based to a love-based reality and learn how to tap into inner wisdom.

Psychotherapy: Using my 7+ years of clinical experiences and culturally sensitive, trauma-informed background, I assist clients in uncovering root issues leading to current blockages. I encourage the exploration of the typically avoided through empathic attunement and unconditional support. Being a safe landing pad, clients are able to address themes related to shame, trauma, insecurities and negativity as well as access their inner healer.

Channeling: Channeled sessions involve setting an intention to communicate with the highest vibrational beings that have the client’s best interest at heart. I can connect clients to spirit guides, angels, multidimensional beings and passed over loved ones. In these sessions, clients can speak directly to these beings and ask questions about their current life path. Clients are able to gain clarity and make significant life changes from this source of a higher wisdom. I’ve seen beautiful transformations unfold through these channeled sessions.

Special events crisis management: This service helps enhance safety and support in an arena that is ripe with triggers and mental escape. As previously mentioned, I bring a team of licensed psychotherapists to festivals for crisis management and risk assessment. We work alongside medical and security to best serve participants. In addition to crisis management, I also offer a mental health first aid tent where participants can decompress with the care of my team. Anybody experiencing distress can come into this space to re-orient. In between serving the participants, my team and I are able to enjoy the art and music of the festival and connect with such a unique community.

Beyond the three main services, Wellness Vybz has participated in various speaking engagements from large conventions to classrooms. Some notable events were Twitchcon 2018 and Dreamhack 2019.

What were you like growing up?
As a young girl, my energy was focused on reading a ton of fiction, falling off bicycles, eating ice cream and chatting up a storm. I didn’t have a lot of toys growing up so my imagination was boundless and make-belief play was a favorite past time with the neighborhood kids and siblings.

The things that stayed true through all the phases of transition were my love for “coincidences”, belief in magic, being the “older soul” amongst friends, ice cream, coloring outside the lines and interest in psychology.
