Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Rath.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved from Pittsburgh to LA to attend USC where I majored in International Relations and Global Business and got my first taste of Hollywood. After graduation, I began my career in the entertainment industry as a reporter for Life & Style Magazine covering red carpets and events throughout Hollywood. Before social media took over, media outlets were the only attendees at the celebrity-focused events that took place during award season, Sundance, and music festivals. Brand marketing started with celebrities, and I was on the frontlines as I watched the brand-sponsored events I covered get featured in national publications.
I explored a career outside of media as Director of Operations for Vego Pictures, a full-service digital production company that worked with American Idol and Kevin Hart’s LOL Network on branded partnerships with companies including Lyft, Old Spice, and Moutain Dew. Also in the television realm, I helped startups and famous athletes ink endorsement deals as a producer on Rob Gronkowski’s “MVP”. After working in television, my mind was set on a career in branding. I earned an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and promptly launched my own company, Bel Air Branding.
Bel Air Branding was started with two close friends of mine, Alycia Beutler and Tatiana Steelman, as a boutique full-service digital agency. We all love social media and pop-culture and started Bel Air as a way to help small businesses attract new customers by developing their brands digitally. Our clients vary across a number of industries including hospitality, real estate, local government, and event planning. We help with everything including across-the-board branding, social media management, web design, e-commerce, influencer marketing, live events, and traditional PR. Each business is different, but it’s just as exciting for us when clients get a new customer through our efforts whether it be through a feature on The Food Network or a new customer who found the business on Instagram.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest struggles in starting my own business was making the jump from a full-time position to focusing on a start-up that only had two clients. We still work with our very first client, which has led us to a number of other opportunities and new clients. It was difficult to sign that first account as a newly formed company, but using that client as a case study and reference has helped us build a company.
Please tell us about Bel Air Branding.
Bel Air Branding is a boutique branding agency specializing in social media management, digital advertising, web design, e-commerce, influencer marketing, live events, and traditional PR. The partners manage all accounts in-house locally in LA which allows us to have personal relationships with all of our clients. As compared to larger agencies, we offer more flexibility in our services and offerings and can tailor packages to a client’s need. I am most proud of the success we have seen our clients have since beginning to work with us. One client that has been in business for 63 years has been continuously breaking their own sales records since we began working together.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I would say summers spend playing tennis and going to the pool every day in Pittsburgh.
