Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaz Warren.
Chaz, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I was a kid, I always had a soft spot for beautiful things. Before I ever picked up a camera, my imagination was racing with visions that I wanted to bring to life, but I never knew how to express those visions to other people. I was never a good writer, and I couldn’t draw or paint very well. It wasn’t until my early days in high school that I started taking photos with the camera on my phone.
I would take pictures of anything that pleased my eye without any hesitation and post the photos on my Instagram page. My photos started gaining positive feedback from my friends and family throughout my four years in high school (Class of 2016). I ran Track and my dad would use a Nikon D5200 camera to record video of my races. I never thought about using the camera to take photos though, as I was focused on Track at the time. I got a scholarship to California State University, Northridge and ran for two years there.
Unfortunately, I didn’t run well in college due to injuries and my scholarship was cut after my second year attending the university. I was devastated and felt like I didn’t have a purpose anymore. I fell into a state of deep depression. I was still was occasionally taking photos on my phone like in high school, and that’s when the idea struck me. To help with my depression, I decided to use my dad’s Nikon and take photos! Throughout the Summer break of 2018, I was taking photos of anything that pleased my eye. I was able to get into portrait and automotive photography by photographing my friends and their cars. I’m still learning a lot to this day, but I’m blessed to finally be able to show my visions of Southern California to people all over the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been smooth overall. I’m now attending California State University, Los Angeles. Managing my photography career and handling my schoolwork has been pretty tough, but I’m getting through it. As a freelance photographer, I have to set myself apart and give people a reason for why they should book a photoshoot with me.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chazzydawg – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I believe that I’ve been able to get to where I am today is because I don’t focus on one specific genre in the photography industry. I’m able to shoot photos for businesses to promote their products, portraits, automotive photography, landscape photography, as well as street photography. My automotive photography stands out the most because I’m one of the few that can cover all aspects of the car culture in L.A. I’ve been blessed to be able to photograph cars from multiple automotive magazines such as Superstreet, DUB, Toyo Tires, and more!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My main goal from here is to expand and get my work shown to as many people as possible. The greatest joy I get from my photography is inspiring people to take a risk and find the beauty in life. I’ve learned very quickly that time flies and life is short.
