Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantal Massuh.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chantal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started production designing by answering low budget indie film crew ads online. I was always willing to take any job where I was able to be the designer instead of the assistant. I knew I was never meant to be the assistant.
Never being afraid of taking on responsibility and wanting to have my voice heard creatively I thrived when people underestimated me. What’s cool is you formulate a team that becomes family over the years and you grow together and every project always gets bigger and the stakes get higher. I was able to join the Art Directors Guild in half the time it normally takes someone which is 10 years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life is never a smooth road. Being a young female in a boys club means that people see me as a challenge. I welcome it.
Having tenacity and setting goals for one’s self is highly important. For every win, there’s a million fails. I’ve never been afraid to fail and I do quite often but the wins are always 10 times larger than the fails.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chantal Massuh Design – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a freelance Production designer and my website is www.chantalmassuhdesign.com.
I specialize in creating film worlds and designing sets for motion pictures. An architect for the backdrop of the picture.
The tastemaker!
What sets me apart is my unique and funky style that has been dubbed edgy. I push boundaries with my story-driven color stories and by juxtaposing styles.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have a few features being released theatrically so that’s pretty exciting. One day I’m going to win an ADG award for best production design.
