Meet Chanel Swoope of Cocokale in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Swoope.

Chanel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
COCOKALE was initially inspired by the lack of health literacy in my community and my mother being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, I’ve watched multiple people suffer from preventable diseases and engage in high-risk behaviors for chronic illnesses. In efforts to heal my mother and educate the community, I started studying nutrition, environmental + behavioral psychology, and preventive medicine. Now I currently work as a Public Health Consultant and Health Coach.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Initially, I thought running a health coach business was a lot simpler than it actually is. In the beginning, I overwhelmed myself with tasks and didn’t consider the general challenges of running a business independently. It took me a while to properly manage and organize it in a way that works for me without getting in my own way. However, it has caused me to learn the value of time, boundaries, and allowing myself to outsource tasks when necessary.

Tell me more about COCOKALE. What are you most proud of as a company?
COCOKALE educates, empowers, and supports women in becoming the highest version of themselves. I specialize in life and health coaching to help others achieve their personal goals and reduce high-risk behaviors for chronic illnesses. I am most proud that my company does not offer generic services/products/advice to clients. While the packages may be the same, the context is always changing, there’s no script. I believe it’s important to offer that flexibility because every client is different. I also host retreats (internationally and domestically) 2-3x times a year to connect women all across the world for health/wellness activities, social connectedness, adventure, and individual/group coaching.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the health coaching industry growing exponentially. Preventive medicine is key to cutting healthcare costs, reducing chronic illnesses, and promoting long-term healthy behavior change. Health coaching directly assists the healthcare industry by providing that 1-on-1 consistent accountability some clients need to thrive. Although there have been tremendous changes in the health coaching industry since I started, I believe it will continue to take on that collaborative approach in the future to improve population health.
