Today we’d like to introduce you to Celine Onwuchekwa.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Celine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a freelance Director, Producer, and Writer. Sometimes I also work as an Assistant Director. I’m from Abia State in Nigeria but I lived in Lagos state before moving to L.A. I’m the first from a family of 3 kids. I started as a commercial model and actress back in Nigeria. I had my agent and manager, nothing too major though. I studied Engineering, then I ventured into the events aspect of the entertainment industry. I thought to myself, this was something I was good at and loved doing so I started my company Fab8th Productions. I started producing or managing events (music, comedy, fashion shows, and beauty pageants) as the case may be. I also started managing music artists, beauty queens, etc . While doing this, I’ll still find time to write stories when the ideas came to me, directed a couple of things here and there. I was also involved in a lot of charity work. Eventually, I decided to come study filmmaking in L.A. I wanted to tell my stories, in my own way. I also wanted to be a voice for those who couldn’t be heard and that’s how I ventured into filmmaking fully.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has indeed been quite a smooth road. My first major short film “Mirror” was selected for film festivals which I’m still grateful for and I’m working really hard to do more and even better. I have two other films coming soon “Rise Above My Pain” and “Choked” which I also acted in so stay tuned. My family has been very supportive in making my journey smooth and I cannot thank them enough.

Fab8th Productions is known for Events and Film majorly. I am most proud of the jobs we have done and the relationships we have built over time. I recently just got nominated for “ Best International Female Filmmaker” at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I believe it is actually, all the events happen here and it is the home of the movies. About starting out, hmmm, I don’t know.
