Meet Burbank Fitness Trainer: Ann Moss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Moss.

Ann, please share your story with us.  How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up on the east coast and it was tough. It was cold most of the year, hard to stay active, and the home cooked meals were fabulous. But I always loved the outdoors and sports, and feeling healthy so that led me to wanting to help and motivate others. By age 29 I was a single mom who moved to L.A. and I became a trainer. I also lead a hiking and biking club with a few clients and friends who want to join and stay active. I love what I do and those who are so dedicated to me and themselves mostly.

Has it been a smooth road?
It is never a smooth road being a trainer, but it is fun and I love seeing results and changing lives. Being a trainer is more than telling someone what to do. You have to know their story, where they come from and what moves them. What makes them who they are? There are always challenges because of money and time for being able to keep clients consistent. I have clients take breaks for these reasons but there are always more who pop up around the corner. I cannot get caught up in their story, I have to stay focused and coach them. 

What are your plans for the future?
The future is very bright. My son got accepted to The University of Arizona and my boyfriend and I are planning on buying property in Tuscan and eventually move there. But in the meantime business is good and I am having a blast this summer training and staying active. It is headed in the direction I always thought it would.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story.  What was the hardest time you’ve had?
Probably the hardest time was about a year and a half after moving to L.A. And my son was 8 and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and between working 2 jobs 7 days a week, he was on a strict schedule of eating and insulin shots so rest or even sleep was scarce. And it got worse after I almost lost him from a seizure a year later but it did get easier as time went on. I had a lot of support from friends here and even my clients who usually become like family to us.

Once I started my own business a few years ago I had more freedom to spend time with my son and be more involved and training became more fun for me. I am very active in hiking and biking in the area and we often have my clients join when they are available. I feel the more support I give the more results they will see and it is always a positive fun group setting.

Do you ever just stop and think WOW – I’ve made it?

I learn a lot from my clients as well even though I am the instructor. I have an open mind and love the communication I have with my clients. Training can be fun and not like torture, lol. I feel like I have definitely earned where I am but I still have some building and growing to do.
