Meet Brit Bronson of SpaceMVMNT in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brit Bronson.

Brit, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 disorder and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.) I was 19 years old and recently living in Los Angeles, dropped out of college in Arizona because of a painful, traumatic event and was extremely lost. I thought my illness was a death sentence. Little did I know it would become my superpower. I struggled for years and hit rock bottom when I was 25. I realized I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I was done feeling sorry for myself. It was after a long hospitalization from a manic episode that something finally clicked- I accepted my diagnosis and wanted to make a change in my life. I started to research the best tools for how to cope and manage living with a mental health condition. The evidence I was looking for wasn’t black and white. Every playbook was different and it was then that I realized I wanted to write my own script and find my own way. I was desperate to want to help myself so I could help someone else. That was my calling.

After years of experimentation and trial and error, I figured out what worked best for me. The best medicine, besides my Lithium of course, was giving back. So that’s why I started spaceMVMNT and public speaking; sharing my personal story with others was healing for me. With spaceMVMNT, I wanted to channel my creativity hand in hand with a purpose and focus on philanthropy. I have learned that failure is the only way to grow. Learning from my mistakes and becoming vulnerable with my story has helped shaped where I am today. I am so excited to see what is to come and live with no regrets. I think it’s really important for me to get so personal with my story because it allows the audience to have a better understanding of the scope of work I do and why it’s so special!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Do smooth roads even exist? Not for me, I’ve been hitting speed bumps for as long as I can remember. Professionally, I have always struggled with financial security. Perhaps one would call my work freelancing, so there is absolutely no guaranteed income. I have two avenues of my business. One is mentorship and speaking, the other is spaceMVMNT, a creative agency for socially conscious brands and non-profits. Both work similarly in the way that I have clients who do not always need my services. Some months, I’ll be jam packed and others I might not be working with anyone. It’s always a gamble and therefore, a constant struggle.

Personally, I have struggled with medication. I have been taking meds for ten years, and sometimes they just don’t work. 99% of the time, the side effects are awful but on the flip side, I know I can’t function my best without them. It’s a battle I’m willing to continue to fight but it sure is exhausting. Another struggle I have is self-doubt and the fear of not being enough. There are several pressures and expectations that carry weight on my shoulders and it’s been challenging to let them go. This is something I will need to work on the rest of my life.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about spaceMVMNT – what should we know?
spaceMVMNT is a creative agency for socially conscious brands and organizations. We are storytellers, community builders, and passion promoters committed to building awareness for causes we care about. Through unique experiences, digital campaigns, strategic marketing, and creative merchandise, we bring together doers, thinkers, and change agents to help groups help the world.

spaceMVMNT launched only two months ago- we’re still in our infancy stage! I am currently working really hard to create a company culture to be extremely proud of and establishing core values that will include inclusion, equality, diversity, innovation, passion and trust. After working for someone else for the past decade, I’ve learned exactly what I like and most importantly what I don’t like about a work environment. I am fully ready to be responsible for cultivating the dream work experience for my employees and making work feel like home and a space they want to wake up excited to go to every day. The more you feel your career is less of a job and more of a passion, the better the results.

In addition to spaceMVMNT, I do public speaking and share my personal story on Mental Health. I mentor people living with a mental health condition and it is the most rewarding work I do. My passion for helping others manage their lives living with Mental Health conditions sets me apart from others. It requires a lot of patience, understanding, empathy and resilience to work so closely with people who cannot always control their behaviors. Every human is unique and has their own story to tell. I love to help people navigate their thoughts in their brains and bring their stories to life.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I probably say “it takes a village” ten times a day. I wouldn’t be anywhere without my rockstar village; my immediate family, closest friends and my business advisor/mentor.

I feel like Ron Artest back in the 2010 NBA Finals Post Game Interview when he thanks his therapist. But in all seriousness, it’s the truth! Specifically, my therapist has provided me with so much constructive criticism and important feedback. I run everything by her; good and bad ideas, boy problems, financial issues, everything! She has played a critical role in my business with all of her insight and coping strategies for when my stress levels are too high! She’s also really great at communicating with my psychiatrist who medicates me when needed 🙂

My sister is someone I really look up to and she has been tremendously helpful with spaceMVMNT. Creativity and professionalism run through her veins. It’s been fun to see her become so passionate about the work I do and having her in my corner is always a bonus.
